I haven't been checking, but none of my refs have said anything about being contacted, and I'd be quite surprised if at least a couple didn't mention it. No worries, tho. I've done everything I could do by now. It is out of my hands.

I am guessing that they are taking these in the order they received them. I know I got my application materials in a little earlier than most of you. They seem to have checked every one of my professional, adversary, and past employment for 15 years (which was only one). I do not feel right asking the judges if they were contacted, but I am guessing they were. I had all of my materials faxed in about a day sooner than most of you. I happened to be on vacation the week before and I worked on the form before the cert came out, thanks to Orly's post. I was able to line up all but a couple of my references that week. This process really lends itself to obsessive behavior, doesn't it? I think this board, as helpful as it has been, also fuels my obsessive tendencies. In the end, everyone will be dealt with, just as everyone has had, or will have their interviews, and everyone (I assume) had their travel arranged. The next think to obsess about will be when the offers start coming in. Gee, I can't wait...that will definitely be the worst!

They haven't done anything else in the order it came in. I suspect that the contractor got a whole bunch of them at once, if not all of those submitted by 5/31 that they actually had in hand, and then it may well be up to them what order they call them in.
(I've not got an issue with asking my judicial references...they are as anxious to help as anyone. But, I am not presently regularly appearing before any of them)

There is no compelling reason to do the checks in any order at all. Most likely the contractor receives some big boxes filled with the applications, they count how many there are divide by the number of people they have working on the project and dig out the required number and dump in the work area of each person. Some early people end up at the top of a worker's pile and some end up at the bottom of someone else's.

I think you mistakenly described the method OPM uses to determine who is qualified to test and interview!

Wow! This past week, I received an email at work asking reference questions about a particular representative who appears before me regularly. Since they indicated a deadline, I logged on remotely and provided honest, positive responses about this outstanding young man. I thought no more about it until I logged on to this board. Guess I had forgotten about the obsessive need for information of any kind, that I also experienced when I was waiting for news ~ any news. Perhaps I should let him know on Monday that I received the email so he will know they are considering him.

According to some posts on this board, they were checking references on some people before the scheduled date of their interview(s). All those interviewed, and those previously interviewed who are on the cert presumably are having their references checked. So, I don't think it means they are "considering him" any more than anyone else on the cert.

For all of you experts on this extremely confusing process, I had my interview on June 10 and as far as I know, none of my references have been contacted yet. Is that a cause for concern or do you think they are still working through the process?

Just like scheduling interviews, they get to them when they get to them, but they WILL get to them.

I applied for the ALJ register in the fall of 2008. I was interviewed early in 2009 and made the register with a pretty high score. I was on the certs for the Spring 2009, Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 rounds of hiring, but I've never gotten an offer.
I am on the current cert. This time, I provided a different group of references, out of concern that -- perhaps -- one or two of my initial references had been unreliable.
I recently asked SSA whether my new set of references would be contacted, and the response I received was that a new reference check ONLY would be performed if my prior reference check was done was more than 12 months ago.
By my calculation, this suggests that although I have been considered on three prior certs, my references probably were contacted only in Spring 2009 -- and that I am now due for a new reference check (i.e., more than 12 months have passed since my last reference check in Spring 2009). But so far, none of my references have been contacted for the current cert.
I'm not freaking out about this; frankly, given my very poor experience with the whole ALJ hiring process, I am expecting very little from this round of hiring, either. But I was wondering whether anyone else in my "class" (i.e., someone who applied for the ALJ register in the fall 2008) AND who was on the Spring 2009 cert) has learned that their references have been contacted recently in anticipation of this new round of hiring?

do they contact the references of everyone that made the cert? or just the individuals they are interested in/considering?

I KNOW that this is a dead horse , so please don't shoot me! I prefer to think of it as a comatose horse ;D. BUT ... could anyone whose references have been contacted recently please post here or send me a PM (I'm especially interested in those that had interviews during an earlier cert, so weren't interviewed this time). Thanks! Peace and Blessings, Ladywordsmith My hub is in the Three-Strike Club and has been on every recent cert. One of his references was called this time. References have been called on previous certs as well even though he will never be chosen.

A cow-orker/ref stopped by this morning, and asked what was up, saying he had not been contacted. Another told me the same last week. Figure the most likely explanation is that I impressed them so much at my interview that they figured they didn't even need to contact any of my references. Right? Nothing much I can do about it. I was not on any previous certs.
