One of my refs received a call yesterday. Good for you Sratty! Movement of any sort is good! My Unified Theory of WAG: They identified those at the top of each city cert (or reasonably reachable) they want/think will get an offer based on score, GAL, "desired insider" status, etc., and scheduled those first. This would account for the apparent randomness of the interview selections. They are contacting references first on many others to see if the candidates pass the reference test. If the references aren't glowing, your interview will be postponed. If you have good references, then they'll interview you in the remaining time, whatever that is. In this way, they can prioritize their interviews to target those they feel are the most likely offerees based on scores, "desired insider" status, and references. I find it hard to accept the "purely random" theory of this interview process. It could potentially leave un-interviewed high-scorers who would need to be considered as one of the top three for multiple cities.

I respectfully disagree Sandi. I've been scheduled for an interview next week and already had at least 1 reference contacted. My score is middleish based on the recent polling.

Sandiferhands,
While I love a good WAG, I don't think this one is quite on point. Only one of my three cities made this cert. and I am a 10 point veteran with a score over 80. I am not saying that makes me a lock, but I would think it would probably place me in the top 3. So far I only have one reference that has been checked and it was from a federal judge that BCC me on his written reference and it was quite favorable.
I hate to admit that this is all random, but it just might be...

Except that if you are on a cert, you have to be interviewed like everyone else on the cert. If you were not "reachable" to begin with, you would not be on the cert at all. I am an insider and have yet to have an interview call. I do not think there is any prioritizing going on here. Not at this stage. They just want to get everyone interviewed at this point.

One of my refs received a call yesterday. Yet, if I remember correctly, I think you stated something like you sent in your paperwork the first day. It's about time they get to your references. Also, hopefully you will get an interview time soon, too.

An update on my status. Although I have yet to be contacted for an interview, I received a call this morning indicating that at least one of my references has been contacted. I submitted my paperwork last Thursday. Patience!!!!

I think it is random, too! This has ALWAYS been a random process. I don't think that has changed. Frankly, a lot of people who are new to this board in the last couple of years spend a bit too much time overanalyzing this process. it's not necessarily a good thing.

Thanks for weighing in, folks. I sincerely hope that all of you are right and I am wrong! Until then, I guess it's just a game of standing by the phone--and getting some actual work done.

Fills the time waiting for the call from Bob:) While I generally agree with this sentiment, I would note that very few things in life are truly random. There is usual some sort of method to the madness. I doubt that Puzzle Palace is using one of those old school bingo globes and putting our names on little white balls that randomly pop out. This is the digital age and we are part of a database which probably means we are listed on some sort of Excel spreadsheet and every spreadsheet is sorted by some column or another. So while the process might appear random for those trying to look in, there is little doubt in my mind that there isn't some sort of process in play. You cannot possible keep tabs on everything and this many people without having some sort of system. As a bunch of "type A" litigators such appearance of randomness drives us crazy so we spend our time trying to crack the code.

Well , experience with this process, and not being a type A litigator or conspiracy theorist, I have a different outlook.

Does anyone know if your references are being contacted initially by phone or by e-mail?

Phone. At last count, all but 4 of mine had been contacted. Some of the calls were made on Tuesday, which was a federal holiday. I think so many names are required because 1) in case someone can't be reached (like because they called on a holiday) there are back-ups, and 2) to determine consistency across references and categories. But I agree, it is a pain and it is nerve wracking. But that's kind of par for this course, isn't it?
