Does anyone know if any of the openings that showed up on the cert have been filled by transfers? I figure if the new hire offers are coming next week(ish), then the transfer offers should be out or going out as we speak.
Just thinking ahead so we can get a poll up and watch with anticipation as the slots fill up.
Thanks, folks.

Do you know where I can locate the list containing the locations being filled by this cert? If so, perhaps I may be able to offer some insight.

The transfer offers have already gone out. Wichita Kansas was filled and does not have an opening. Topeka Kansas Was filled by transfer except for one opening. I believe the NHC in St Louis may still have some openings. I also think that Omaha and Des Moines may still have openings. My guess it that Tupelo Mississippi has an opening and I think so does Lexington, KY.

Wouldn't transfers to another location though also necessarily open up positions? What happens to the now vacant positions? Do now vacant positions then become open for the next cert only? Or are we eligible to be considered for those locations if we put them on our GAL and if they were already on the list of locations with openings?

I think if an opening by transfer is in a city that was NOT on this cert, it waits until next time. They don't know who would actually take an opening in a city that the applicant hadn't had the opportunity to confirm from their GAL when they did their SSA paperwork.
If it's just an additional opening in a city that was already on this cert, I would think they would fill it.... it seems logical that they would. But, what seems logical is not necessarily what is done in situations like this.

But, what seems logical is DEFINITELY WHAT WILL NOT BE done in situations like this. Corrected a typo for you there. Remember what I said elsewhere: if there is one option that seems to be the only sensible way for the Agency to do something, the one thing you can bet on is that that will NOT be the approach taken!

If I'm following correctly, transfers that are ongoing, may fill spots on the current GAL so a person who initially listed 15 cities now has 5 cities left on their GAL but none of the five may really be open because of transfers and three of their first listed cities may be open but aren't listed as open because the ALJ's leaving left after the cert GAL was created.

I thought the transfers happened prior to cert. I'm so confused. Oh well. Out of my hands now!

I would think not, if it results in adding new cities. If they could, they'd have to contact all those who had the new cities on their GALs to confirm that they still wanted to be considered for openings there. I've read here that in the past that those just get left open to the next cert. bowser-- "Typo?" You are funny, my friend.

Well, at least I don't have to worry about the possibility of commuting from Lawrence to Wichita!

I know SEVERAL in your boat too Mastroj. Who knew Kansas was so popular? If you live in the Kansas City, KS suburbs it can actually be about the same commute as to the Kansas City, MO hearing office and you only have to deal with one state taxing authority instead of two if you live Kansas side and commute to the Missouri side. Don't have any idea what might drive the Wichita interest.

As others have said, the reality is that transfers will continue to occur even while job offers of going out. Its a messy process much like making sausage. Unless you are a fan of giving yourself a migraine, there is no utility in trying to "guess" what cities might be available based on what transfers may or may not have occurred. The agency is only required to provide an updated transfer list to the Union on a quarterly basis. So, the current list generally available is from April. Who knows who has put into a transfer since then. Odds are good an updated master transfer list won't be generally available until after the hire is made.

True, no need to worry now. However, I do wish I would have "strategized" better and put that I'd work anywhere and then transfer later. I have a limited GAL because I wanted to pick locations where I have already lived or been or where I thought I could live without the need to transfer. There was no time for me during the application process to research locations. Besides, I really wanted this job to be mutually beneficial: I go where SSA needs me and I get to live in a city and state I like or at least think I like. I also just wasn't sure how long it would take for a transfer to go through if I did want to transfer out of a state. So my strategy consisted of being genuine about where I would be agreeable to live. So if transfers have filled up my locations, I will be out of luck on this cert. I can't worry about that now as worrying never solved a problem.
