Congratulations to BJ, PeterPrinciple, atlantis, builtforcomfort, and topher. Even though the silence eminating from my cell phone is deafening, it's exciting to see all these offers and the congratulations posts. Hope they keep on coming. Go Bob! Hope you are eating lunch at your desk today.

Hope you are eating lunch at your desk today. Thanks so much to Tricia and all for the kind words of congratulations. I'm rooting for you! I'm one of those who first applied back in '97 or so; I know the waiting is so hard! Hang in there. Just to let you all know - Bob wasn't the caller who made my offer.

I, too, congratulate all who have been notified--a great day! Thanks, BJ, for the info on who's making the calls, your encouragement, and your good example of patience. I hope those of us who are still waiting have a good weekend!

Back in 2008, the offers came by email. A personal phone call is a vast improvement even if it takes longer.

I am surprised by the few number of calls reported here. Historically, however, we can expect quite a few reports tonight as people finish their decisions about accepting the offers, tell important people, and only then get to updating us. Also, some people might have messages on their home phones, or something. Nevertheless, it seems clear that calls will continue into Monday. It is 4:30 pm in Baltimore, so they can't be going too much longer.

First, heartiest congratulations to everyone who has gotten offers.
Second, for all you board old-timers, has the timing of these calls inspired deja vu in anyone else? Four years ago, also on the first Friday in May, was when OPM re-opened the register. Remember the business about closing at midnight of the day that they got 1250 apps, and all the craziness that led to, including the amended complaint in the AALJ's ill-fated lawsuit against OPM?
I remember thinking as I watched the Kentucky Derby the next day that there were probably a lot of would be applicants missing the broadcast of the race because they had to work so fast on their apps to avoid being closed out.
Now, four years later, Derby weekend once again coincides with a major development in the ALJ hiring cycle.

Funny thing is I am happier for the new hires than I was for myself last August. I was so overwhelmed by the figuring out what the heck do we do now that I really didn't get a chance to celebrate or savor the big day.

Yes, congratulations! Do not worry, you will be able to savor the moment.
BTW, we have a judge in our office who is 65+ and does 18 hearings a week and denies his fair share. He said to me the other day this is still the best job in the Govt. Not a bad deal, right?

Any guesstimates on how many offers have not yet been made?

Given the small number of postings here, I would say quite a few offers are still coming. I'd guestimate 30 or so have gone out. I also heard the same rumor as others on the board that offers will continue to go out Monday and Tuesday. I think they were just trying to whet our appetites yesterday.

Two years ago when I was hired, we got information that the offers would be made in May. I was traveling by sailboat in remote areas of Croatia in May, so I would desperately try to find a way to visit this board whenever we hit a town with a wifi connection. I got back home the end of May, and still no news, until the last Friday of May when the news hit that the offers had started. I think only 2-3 offers were made that day (either to "whet the appetite" or so they could say that offers had been made in May as promised). The vast majority of the offers were made the following Monday, June 1 and into the rest of that week. We had to start June 22 (I was told I could ask to start the following month only if it were an absolutely dire emergency), so less than 3 weeks between offer and start date.
Anyway, the moral is that there seems to be a pattern of dribbling out only a couple offers by the week someone had probably committed would be the week that the offers would go out. The VAST MAJORITY of the offers are going out next week. In my year, no-one could discern any correlation between the timing of of the offers and any other factor (geography, high score, etc.) Except that it seems that most of the people that got shorter notice (earlier start date) were already government employees (state or federal), so they probably figured those folks didn't need so much time to wrap up.
Good luck to all of you who are waiting to hear. Hope you can enjoy your weekends. Please don't take the fact that a very few have heard good news as meaning anything in particular. It's probably not over for this hiring cycle until a full 24 hours pass with no reports on this board of any new offers. It wouldn't surprise me if most of the offers are Monday and Tuesday, but they dribble additional offers out all next week, so brace yourself to wait until Friday.

In the more recent hires, one person (Bob) has been making all the calls. It's going to take a few days for one person to call and return calls for 134 people. When I was offered my ALJ position last August it was a phone call from a woman named Teri. Congrats to the new ALJs (and ALJs to be who receive phone calls next week).
