Positive thinking is good to have as opposed to negative thinking. Let's just keep our fingers crossed for acceptable results to move on to the next stage. That is a very good point! I was indeed enjoying the flight of fantasy of booking a room and scheduling a flight to BWI or Dulles, and the first class travel and happy food part of the fantasy didn't hurt either! Thanks aljfaq! Happy thoughts!

If you are going to DC to be tested or interviewed, why risk being frazzled by public transit and cheap hotels/in-laws? Fly first class into Reagan National, have a car and driver pick you up at the airport, take you to the Ritz in Pentagon City, eat happy foods, think happy thoughts, and blow the socks off the testers/interviewers with relaxed, unfrazzled confidence. Even if you don't get the job, at least you've had a fabulous time . . . In April of 2009, right after my SSA interview was done at Falls Church, I took a cab back to Reagan National to start my trip home. While waiting for my flight, I sat at the TGI Friday and had a large glass of beer and felt all the stress float away. At that point, I have done everything I could and there was nothing left to do but wait. While it wasn't luxurious by any means, I always remember that tall glass of cold beer as one of the best glasses of beer I had. :-)

On May 16, 2013, OPM sent a letter to the head of the ABA Admin Law Section soliciting private attorneys to serve as panelists for the SI. The letter stated they expected the SIs to begin in July and continue through September (8-12 weeks). The letter indicates that the SI will not take place until after the WD/LBMT; so that portion of the exam will have to happen sometime in June or early July.

Interesting... assuming Observer53's prediction of a 3 week travel heads up from OPM, we should be hearing results and getting invitations for the WD/LBMT any day now.

I assume that - if they are soliciting panelists and they have an approximate time frame all the SIs will consume - they have some feel for how many of us are going forward. Gonna change my votes on the poll! It's getting exciting again!

I have repeatedly read this post, but question the exact timeline of WD/LBMT. In my reading of the post, it merely says the testing must occur prior to the interview. Could testing still technically be the day before the interview? Does the letter offer more clarification? Don't get me wrong, like everyone else, I want to know as soon as possible if I made it to the next round.

Check out the last post on page 2 of this thread. And I agree, it could still be a bit longer than "imminent." The letter only says July or September, so technically they could start all testing in late July if the SI was scheduled the day after the WD and LBMT.

When I went through the process, Spring 2010, Besides D.C., the WD was also administered in San Francisco and Chicago. I took the WD at the Federal Building in San Francisco and - if I remember correctly - the SI about two weeks later in Alexandria, VA.

The letter I read suggested all PIs will be conducted in the Washington D.C. area starting in July. That would suggest some quick movement on determining which candidates get a ticket to participate. When I went rhough the OPM evaluative process in March 2010 I got tested on a Thursday morning and got interviewed the following Friday morning. I don't know if OPM will be as accommodating this go around with so many candidates getting fully tested, but it's certainly possible. Unfortunately, they have historically been very user unfriendly: inviting me up to D.C. for two days a week apart in the SUmmer of 2007. Back in the old days it was possible to get tested and interviewed within the same state at differnt venues where you could drive. I don't think that will happen again. Good luck to all in the hunt. I am just glad to be in a position to avoid the ridiculous application and testing process you folks now must endure. Just remember OPM is not rational or fair in its actions as a whole. Don't get discouraged if you encounter a roadblock or uncovered manhole during the current process. Dust yourself off and keep plugging away. I am living proof you can ultimately succeed in an ALJ quest at 12+ years.

Friends, according to rumors that came from a meeting yesterday with an Deputy Chief Judge, there will probably not be a small Cert after all. Any excess funding will be used for the operations side or field offices. Further, the new application process is a shambles and hundreds if not thousands of appeals have been filed already. OPM has not decided what it will do about this situation and is reconsidering the process. This is a mess. (emphasis added by me) I had been on the optimistic side regarding the small Cert as we have continued to have funding for overtime. Further, the DCJ noted that quality was more important than numbers and if a Judge couldn't do the 500-700 then they needed to do what they could while maintaining quality. This is probably a result of the recent Union v. Agency lawsuit. I hope I may be wrong, but this could be why we have had the unexpected delay in the hiring of the 30. He did say they were ready to go with it, but no funds.. I am sorry. This is an interesting post from Bartleby, which showed up under the "Offers" topic, which I am reposting here. It looks as there might be some hiccups in the competitive examination process right now and who knows where this will go. Will OPM proceed and deal with appeals and possible lawsuits later? Will it stop the process and start over? There could be a lot of unanswered questions with no real answers available. I think there might be a lot of handwringing going on at OPM. Let's hold our breath and see what happens, if Bartleby is correct.

Let's hold our breath and see what happens, if Bartleby is correct. Interesting information to be sure. This next question would go to those that have been around a while: at what point did the old Register get frozen? Had OPM completed everything and had a fully developed Register when the lawsuit was filed that froze the Register for years? Or were they still in the scoring process when it became frozen? If it was the former, did they scrap the established Register and start all over once the litigation was settled or hire from the established Register? If it was the latter, did they scrap the whole process and start over again or continue on with what they had? I imagine it matters very little at this point. Just passing time by trying to read the OPM Tarot cards.

Since I've relied heavily on this board for information throughout the process so far, I feel like I should return the favor with information I've found. Credit nervous boredom and the lack of updates from OPM, but I ran a Google search of "opm 2013 alj exam" and limited it to updates in the last month. What I found was this link to the letter discussed above: www.faljc.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/2013-Vittone-letter-to-ABA.pdf. At least it is black and white proof that the SIs will be July through September. Now if I could just find out if I am invited ...

I guess we can forget being patient and go back to checking e-mail and/or USA Jobs every 30 minutes again for the foreseeable future. Good luck to you on getting the invite to the next step.
