I have a much different take on the locked thread. The last board (which gave rise to this one in 2007) was from what I could gather alot of SSA attorneys very, very frustrated and being a bit snarky and troll like. Some if it had to be how hard it is to get the job. But there clearly were other frustrations as well. Now in all fairness there could have been private attorneys and ALJs who were acting like that but that is what comes to mind. Rarely, if ever, do you see ODAR attorneys bad-mouthing other ODAR attorneys or ALJs bashing ALJs. In the wild '08s and '09s, we had some dustups between those of us in the hunt over issues of potential boredom and bad-mouthing SSA as a place to work and we have had aljfaq touch some nerves in that regard, mine included. But there is this core frustration that ODAR attorneys have with their ALJs that I have heard many many times. And I think that ODAR's chief failure in this regard is not listening to it and addressing it. I don't work at ODAR so I have no standing nor knowledge base to offer ideas other than to say it needs a forum. But this Board is NOTHING like it was three or four years ago and you can see that ALJD is determined to keep it that way. I think he errs on the side of being overly protctive, but he has done the work and I can't fault him. That having been said, alot of folks read this Board and don't post. I say if you have some constructive ideas on how to improve the relationships that y'all labor under, post 'em! Sticks and stones may break bones, but they also build houses. A couple of points privateatty. ALJD I believe is a she and not a he. Also, I don't believe resorting to personal attacks solves anything, but add more animosity to the Board. Attack the idea, thought or opinion, but not the person who expressed it. I may not agree with your idea, thought or opinion, but it accomplishes little to personally attack you. It is better that I explain why I disagree with your idea, thought or opinion, while expressing my own. To call you or "your Momma" out adds nothing to the discourse at all IMHO. I'm not advocating personal attacks! I'm simply saying that there appears to be this long-standing animosity between ODAR ALJs and the attorneys. I think alot of it is structural, but again, I would be opining out of ignorance and I see that all too often with the attorneys who appear before me. Thus, I was advocating the very opposite of what you attribute to me.

I guess I missed the boat when I read your post and responded. I am sorry for misunderstanding you and your post. I took your sentence of sticks and stones to mean that it was fine to use words because they wouldn't hurt you. I apologize for my misunderstanding privateatty, mea culpa.

I blame last night's turbulence on the Olympic ice dance competition. Everyone knows that one misplaced twizzle can ruin your night and take you out of the running.

Does it seem like almost everyone's nerves are on the edge? What makes you say that, MPD?

Personally, I thought the closed thread was GREAT! Tears, anger, smoke coming out of ears, and I'm sure at least one person must have broken a nail stabbing at the keyboard. As long as you're not the target, it's great to read posts with a lot of ... er...passion. It definitely makes for an entertaining read. For those of us waiting for NORs it was a great stress reliever. Maybe I'm too influenced by catching up on the third season of Game of Thrones (how could they do that to Robb and Catelyn?!?), but an occasional flame war is okay. As long as it's not a steady diet. But it's always fun to read a well-written, intricately structured, high language flame (as opposed to a "common" flame where every other word is the f-bomb). Overall, I agree with previous posters that this Board is most civilized, and the information and insights provided are invaluable to me, as an Outie. And I appreciate the wit and humor displayed on these pages. I have to thank whoever posted about the stress-relieving March 1st release date (my blood pressure has been nice and normal for most of February) and also to Funkyodar for his recent analysis of timelines involved. As a control freak (seems to be an occupational hazard), the uncertainty and inability to plan is the worst part of this process for me. I've been stressing about how to fit possible interviewing into my trial schedule. But thanks to Funky's possible timeline, I think it's doable.
