Please excuse if this has been discussed recently (because I can't find it!) but does anyone have any idea when OPM might open up to receiving new applicants again? I can't tell if there are so many left over from last time that they won't need new applicants for a while or if they will open it again soon or never or ? I wasn't able to get in last year to submit mine so I'm just hopeful they might open it again soon. Any thoughts welcome and since this is my first post, thanks to the many folks on here who have posted such great information. This is a great group of people.

In that OPM hasn't finished creating the present Register, it is likely to be at least one to two years prior to OPM re-opening the Register for a refresh to allow new applicants. Also, it depends upon how many people are hired from the newly created Register when completed and the number of available people still unused from the newly created Register when done that will determine when a refresh for new applicants is needed.

I'll echo MPD's sentiments. It won't be for a long while. Optimistically, maybe 2016?

No sooner than 2016, if then.

Other than 10-pointers, I would suspect 2016 or 2017.

Superbonbon, do you still have "See Details?"
Edit Note by Pixie: I just noticed this. It sorta creeps in everywhere. Pixie

Who knows the "ways" of OPM...but today marks a year since applications opened for this current round...no NORs yet...so if it takes more than a year to complete the cycle, I'm guessing it will be at least another three or four years before any "refresh" is considered.

New year, same question, same answer?

Same answer, but add about three years from old answer. So, approximately 2019 or 2020 at the earliest for a refresh.

New year, same question, same answer? there has been some speculative talk of 2019. my best guess is there will be new app around time this register is mostly depleted or ideally, a year before that point.

New year, same question, same answer? Since they opened it up in 2016 and the register just updated in the last month- I think it will be a solid 3-4 years before they to refresh the register. The only reason that could change is if SSA expresses dissatisfaction with the new candidates. That wouldn't happen though until they through the candidates interviewing them. The other reason would be if OPM revamps the process- which I do recall there were rumors of a rework going on. Again though with a new influx of so many I doubt there will be a need for at least 2 years.

You also have to take into account the hiring rate for SSA, which is the agency that usually depletes the register. If the recent scuttlebutt that SSA will reduce hiring to attrition level is true, it could push out the refresh/redo date. So, as pointed out above, at least 3 years should be the expected with the potential for a longer time period of the hiring rate drops off.

Just to confirm, those of us on this register with a very limited GAL would not be able to expand our GAL until that time, right? (when new applications are accepted?)

Again though with a new influx of so many I doubt there will be a need for at least 2 years. You are talking about two different things here, maybe. I don't think it will be 3-4 years before they do another refresh. Depending on hiring levels, of course, another refresh of the current register will probably happen within a couple of years. As far as a completely new register, they will probably be content with one more refresh unless they decide to rework the process again, in which case they will need to start over again with applications for a new register.
