Looking forward to taking the test again next year. Things slow, and I hope we all make it. Never give up.

OPM may only have a handful of people to grade, and they are working on all the other people who are already on the register, and appeals as well. Holidays don't make it any easier. Hang in there.

Can anyone help me understand the OPM timelines for 10-point applicants?
I applied for the 10-point closed exam under 5 CFR 332.311(a), the application was received, and acknowledged by OPM in August. In the acknowledgement, OPM notified me that they had "begun the examination process for the 10-point preferfence eligible applicants that had applied for the closed ALJ exam."
I expected to test in the 4th quarter of 2014...but so far, nothing. I'm beginning to think that they mean the examination process includes their application evaluation period. Am I right or should I begin to worry?
I asked OPM my status and they sent a relatively snarky response that I should look at the original message. Which I did - and it's still relatively cryptic. I'm basically waiting right now - it's been almost 4-months.
Thoughts? Experience?

If you track alexandersdad's posts on this thread, they track your experience. Applied before March 31, 2014. Took online portion at the beginning of August 2014. Flew to DC in October 2014. I'd expect that you'll do online testing sometime before the end of March and the WD/SI in the second quarter. No need to worry at this point.

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to pester OPM but their response to my inquiry was essentially "we'll notify you through USA Staffing." That's good in theory, but since this application didn't go through USA Jobs, I wasn't sure if there was something I was missing or some way to check my status.

Has any 10 pt vet out there re-tested and received a score yet?

A small number of us took the exam in mid-October and got our results in early January.

Thanks for the info Batdog. I was given a date in December to re-test but had to re-schedule. OPM informed me I could re-schedule for this current quarterly exam and that I would be receiving new dates to test in early 2015. So, I am waiting on the email. I was curious as to how fast they were scoring re-testers.

A small number of us took the exam in mid-October and got our results in early January. If folks got results, did that mean results that include the coveted NOR, meaning a spot on the register? Did anyone get above the 'average' score of 73.xx (I can't remember exactly)? Or was this the online component?

I applied in July, did the online assessment a couple of weeks later, completed the exam and oral interview in mid-October, and got the NOR the first week of January. There were only 8-10 of us that tested, so I had expected to get the results sooner. I don't know the results for the entire group. I know at least one other person got a NOR, but no idea what he scored. I got a 84.xx. One reason I signed up for this board is that I had no idea if my score was good, bad or mediocre, and no clue what, if anything, I was supposed to do next (and I still don't). It appears there is nothing to do now but sit tight and wait.

I'd say you are in great shape BD. Depending on your GAL and agency interview, I'd expect you wont be waiting long.
Good luck,
Funky

Batdog, I have a question for you. This falls under the heading of, "I used to know this, but now have forgotten." Do field grade officers (0-4) and above receive veterans' points for their service? And is the answer dependent on whether the officer retired at that grade or above?
I could look it up, but if you, or any other veterans know this, it would save me time. Also, I imagine others similarly situated who monitor the board would like to know. Pixie.

Field grade retirees do not receive veterans' preference unless they are disabled. Therefore, as I read it, an O-4 or higher can not get 5 points but can get 10 points, if they have a service connected disability. I don't know how the 10 points for a Purple Heart plays into this.

Therefore, as I read it, an O-4 or higher can not get 5 points but can get 10 points, if they have a service connected disability. I don't know how the 10 points for a Purple Heart plays into this. The limitations only apply to 20 year active duty retirees. The limitations do not apply to 20 year reserve retired 04s and above. These retirees are eligible to claim the 5 points.....if only I had known this when the job announcement was open...so much for relying on federal govt HR advice. OPM reminded me that I was too late to claim my points when I subsequently learned that reserve retirees above 04 are eligible to claim the 5 points, and indeed, when I reread the job announcement, it does so state this. This following is the quote from the OPM Vet Guide. When I applied, the Guide did not have the sentence in parenthesis.
Military retirees at the rank of major, lieutenant commander, or higher are not eligible for preference in appointment unless they are disabled veterans. (This does not apply to Reservists who will not begin drawing military retired pay until age 60).

Sorry to post with uncorroborated information, but someone who seemed to know what they were talking about said this on this board several years back: For purposes of the veteran's credit, if you're a retired active duty O-4 and above, you get the points even if the VA rates you 0%, so long as it's service connected. So, even 0% for that tinnitus is worth something.
Trust me...but verify. Best, Hamster (USAF ret.)
