Ace: bird in hand and all that...

Won't the OMHA process by much faster? Such that it will be impossible to hold off OMHA long enough to find out if you'll get an ODAR offer? I think so. Smaller cert, less paperwork, fewer interviews. Anyone on that OMHA cert who gets an offer will not be able to compare it to an offer from ODAR. Bird in hand, indeed.

I remember, a long time ago back in law school, something about offer and acceptance in contract law. Also, there is something here that troubles me about gaming the process. If an agency extends you an offer in good faith that you accept, they are making decisions in reliance on that acceptance. To try to back away from accepting that offer after the fact doesn't feel right to me. My 2 cents. A big part of this is me trying to do the right thing. Sometimes, that's hard to know. If there wasn't a ticking clock, like an episode of 24, it would be an academic exercise. However, there is, so it isn't. At this point, I think I'm going to fill out all the forms - tomorrow - if nothing else, it is a good dress rehearsal for the coming ODAR cert - and sleep on it. After getting a little more sage counsel during the early part of next week, I will perhaps cut the cities to 1 and respond to the email. It is possible I will decide to respond with a "no thank you". However, if I choose to respond, get an interview and ultimately a job offer, I'll probably take it and live with it. I don't have lots of regrets over things I have done - I do, however, have some regrets over things I didn't do. Thus the conundrum.

I don't think a bona fide consideration and strike for OMHA counts for anything other than them - but I could be wrong.
In any event, as we've discussed ad nauseum - strikes are discretionary. They only 3-strike people they're not going to hire, anyway. In other words, the board consensus (I believe) is that strikes are agency specific.

Well cool, that doesn't solve my other problems with Miami, but I was happy to get on the Cert! But my goal has always been ODAR and my cities are West Crapland type places and all other Crapland cities, so moving within ODAR would be easier than OMHA.
If all else fails, I can move my practice. In my area of criminal defense, I can make it work in any state. Good luck and if you go for it, I hope you get it!

A strike by OMHA has nothing to do with ODAR. But, agencies like ODAR DO strike people just to get to someone else they like better. It isn't always because they don't want them at all.

If you are torn and do not want this job 100% and unless you have the acting chops of Daniel Day-Lewis I would suspect a shade of ambivalence will leak out in your interview. Some of your interviewers may have been doing this for a while and know what they are doing.

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched, amigos.
Pay your money, make your choice, and live with it.

I got the email advising I am on the OMHA list for Arlington, Miami, Irvine and Cleveland, Other than smaller number of cities to choose from, and inability to transfer, anybody have any info about the advantages or disadvantages of being a Medicare Judge as opposed to a Social Security Judge?

Congrats! Just curious, did the OMHA cert email come via OPM or directly from the agency? Just wondering if cert emails will come from a "new" email address and likely to hit the junk folder. I'm thinking positive thoughts and trying to focus my obsessing! Thanks.

The OMHA email came from the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals. To tell the truth, I thought it was from ODAR at first until I looked closely at the return address of the woman who sent it.

Safe bet someone will post about it within, oh, 2 minutes of receiving one.

I just like to know which email folders to check obsessively too. It gives me something to do between posts here.

Do you really think it will take that long? Only if they read the whole email and all the attachments first, and look closely at their GAL. Otherwise, 15 seconds.

Will those participating in the OMHA interviews please let us (those not participating) know when they are scheduled for their interviews? It will give us a general idea of turnaround for SSA interviews, too. Thank you in advance.
