Funky I agree the future of SSA likely lies in National Hearing Centers (NHCs), video hearings and centrally scheduled hearings for ALJs, attorneys/reps. and claimants across the U.S. SSA wants to have attorneys/representatives give their calendars to ODAR for the next three to six months and then schedule hearings for them and their clients without having to call to schedule hearings. It will, in their mind, allow for quicker resolution of cases and less time consumption trying to schedule hearings. The move is toward more video hearings with a centralized scheduling center. Whether it comes to fruition or not only time will tell.

Now that we seem to be nearing the finish line is there any info on transfers? Do we know if any of the openings have been filled by transfers? Is there any way to find out? It is awfully frustrating to be waiting for a phone call for an opening that no longer exists.

I agree it's informative to know about recent transfers. But that still won't tell us whether additional openings exist in that location - or don't - for this round of hiring, unless someone posts that information specifically.

Just a comment on the future of SSA. While the SSA budget may get increases, I doubt that it covers all of the increases in the costs of doing business in the hundreds of free-standing sites SSA operates. Rents and utilities go up too. Consequently, you see SSA trying to rein in some of these costs with closing of field offices and national hearing centers. With more and more people working at home, we have buildings that are at less than 50% occupancy for 3 or more days per week. So look for continued efforts to reduce our physical footprints. We don't need to be everywhere like we were in the days of paper files. If hearing offices are not outright closed in the future, look for them to be phased out through attrition. SSA may very well be learning a lesson in operations from OMHA--large hearing centers around the country.

Quick point of clarification: that is reining in costs with closure of field offices and development of national hearing centers. No national hearing centers are being closed. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

So I am going to pretend that the first cert has run its course from the 2014 register and we will be waiting to hear of transfer activities so the second cert process can begin. Given the larger budget SSA acquired for FY 14 & 15, and Congressional testimony, many more hire will be taking place.
I believe the new transfer list will be out August 15th.
If anyone starts to hear of transfers, please post in this thread.

Does this mean we can expect a cert soon?

Soon is a relative term. I would think it'll happen before the end of FY 2014, but I have no knowledge of this.
I know there were transfers going on last month, but I'm not personally aware of any. My personal knowledge is very limited, though.

Anyone have any theories what "soon" means? Based on the report that ALJ's have been asked to conduct interviews in November, I would guess somewhere from mid-September to the first week of October will be the window when the next round of e-mails will go out.

Concur! This is what I have heard as well (November interviews) so I would guess the same based upon the last round.
