This may have been discussed in another thread, so I apologize if so. I just had a general question regarding leave for ALJs. Do both annual and sick leave accrue in the same manner as under the GS pay scale? Also, for those who are current federal employees, would pay work the same way as it currently does if one is promoted? I.e., if you receive a position, would your salary go to the next highest pay ALJ pay level than your current GS pay level (meaning so that one would not lose pay)?
I have spent some time on OPM's website, but the site isn't very helpful for some of these issues.

JD, the annual and sick leave accrue like the GS pay scale, based on time in Federal service. As far as pay per promotion, I am not sure. We had a GS from OMHA hired as an ALJ and he lost money due to the locality pay. If that makes sense. We also had a GS from the VA and she lost money on the deal also.

For current federal employees, when Bob calls to offer you the job, he will compare your current base pay, meaning salary without locality adjustment, and find the ALJ base pay level that meets or exceeds your current base pay. That will determine the level at which you enter in the ALJ pay scale. He will then go to the pay chart for your duty station to determine your salary with the locality adjustment. His office will eventually need your most recent SF-50 to finalize that number.

Not sure what he does, if anything, for those judges already retired. Maybe nothing as retirees deal with OPM after retirement.

Maybe nothing as retirees deal with OPM after retirement. Sorry. I was unclear. I meant what does Bob do for federal retirees who are being reemployed as ALJs. Is it the same as for current federal employees with respect to salary, leave, etc.?
