Since we don't give personal phone numbers for most references, I doubt they actually make contact on a weekend with many of them. A lot of leaving messages to call back, I expect.

Has anyone else had references contacted? I sent my materials before last Wednesday, and none of my references have been contacted to the best of my knowledge.

If this time is like previous certs, there is NO rhyme or reason to the order people get their references called, the number of references called, etc. Best not to spend a lot of time fretting about it.

A number of my references were contacted today. The telephone interviews last between 20 and 30 minutes, and the interviewer seems to be roughly working from the script previously published on this Board:
How long have you known the candidate?
What is the type and frequency of your association?.
Based on your knowledge, is the applicant a respected member of the legal community? Why?
How would you describe his/her expertise and professional qualifications? What in your opinion are his/her strengths and weaknesses?
What is your understanding of the applicant's typical workload?
What percent of the applicant's work schedule would you estimate is spent in the court room?
How would you describe his/her interaction with others?
Does the applicant display adherence to professional standards of conduct, reliability and diligence to discharge their professional responsibility?
SSA is looking for an applicant who is ethical, hardworking and knowledgeable about the law and procedure. In your opinion, does the applicant have this capability?
The position of Administrative Law Judge requires applicant be capable of managing and adjudicating 500 to 700 cases per year. In your opinion, does applicant have this capability?
Would you recommend this applicant for a position as an Administrative Law Judge? Why/Why not?
Is there any other information which would be helpful to SSA in making a decision on the applicant's qualifications?

Have they ever cut anybody before they interviewed them on the basis of references? No... BUT they hadn't cut anybody after DC testing before this year, either, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they could do it now. |

I got word from several references today (one reference from each category so far) as well as several employment verifiers that they were contacted today. I submitted my documents on Thursday. |
