Assuming you live some distance away, does SSA do the travel (flight) arrangements?

Me too. As long as the board members know who to contact, gender isn't really important ? Too funny! Awesome Orly, thanks.

Jmgjr: For non-SSA employees, you will be provided a travel authorization number (TAN) by email and the phone number for the SSA-contracted travel agency. You will call the travel agency, give them your TAN and interview date/time, and make your flight reservations (and hotel reservations if necessary) over the phone. SSA employees make their travel reservations with the same agency online the same as they would for any work-related travel.

I'm new to the ALJ world and need advice. I'm on the cert list for SSA and all my references have been called.
On Tues, I received an email and telephone call asking if I wanted to interview for OMHA for Kansas City.
So here are my questions: 1. Is there a different pay scale by agency? 2. Can ALJs transfer between agencies, or just to different locations within that agency? 3. What would you do -- take the interview, not take the interview, interview and take the job, etc? 4. What is the 2 strike rule?
Thanks for helping a newbie.

What would you do -- take the interview, not take the interview, interview and take the job, etc? 4. What is the 2 strike rule? 1. No. All Federal ALJs are paid on the same scale. You can find the pay chart on OPM site. 2. ALJs can do both. But other than transfers between SSA offices, which are generally governed by a Union contract, there is no right to a transfer. I know a couple OMHA ALJs who took the job back in 2005 thinking they were going to be able to lateral to SSA soon thereafter. 9 years later they are still at OMHA. 3. What do you want to do with your life? Answer depends on how badly you want to be an ALJ. 4. No 2 strike rule. There's a 3 strike rule and it's already been explained to death on this board. Just do a board search as it is a bit complicated for a short explanation. Good luck!

OMHA does not have an office in Kansas City - unless I missed something (can anyone else comment on this?). Currently, the offices are in Arlington, VA; Irvine, CA; Cleveland, OH; Miami, FL. Soon to be joined by Denver.
Maybe the interview is in Kansas City (but that is not where the job would be located)?

Soon to be joined by Denver. Apparently the new office is going to be in Kansas City, not Denver. Looks like the powers that be changed their minds about the location of the new office. That is discussed in the OMHA updates thread.

How quickly things change -- I'm not going but having been to both places, I like Denver better. Thanks for the update!
Good luck Coffee! Kansas City does have great BBQ and steaks.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to ever turn down a job you haven't been offered yet. Unless you know you absolutely would reject the OMHA job even if it was the only ALJ offer you received, why not continue to pursue both options? What do you have to lose by keeping your options open?

Got the call this afternoon to schedule my interview (June 10). Ok my paranoia is beginning to kick in. I made the cert but no reference has been called and no call regarding an interview date. I mailed my documents on Thursday. I can't be the only one who is having this fear. I wish we received a confiramtion of receipt of the cert package we sent back last week. Oh well, Marathon not a Sprint.

Not to worry...my references haven't been contacted either, nor have I received a call to set up an interview. I am sure they are working through the list and we will hear something soon.

Oh well, Marathon not a Sprint. DO NOT worry. There is no rhyme or reason from the cert point forward as far as when people get called for interviews or travel arrangements, or when their references are called and how many. If they didn't get your packet (and I hope you mean EMAILED) you will hear from them, as the notice said.

None of my references have been contacted and I have not been called yet for an interview. Must also admit to paranoia as to whether they rec'd my emailed documents too. Glad to hear I am not the only one!!

I got the call for the interview today, it is on the 10th. For what it's worth, I haven't heard from any of my references that they were contacted.
