I very rarely post, but wanted to share some potential good news for those of us who apparently missed this cert. I believe the information I have is reliable and I am sharing as it is potentially GREAT news and it may brighten some peoples day. So here goes: The ODAR hiring authority is to hire a total of 240 and they plan to hire 90 this year. As to when the additional 150 will be hired--who knows. But ODAR is not happy about the number of people on the cert for the number of of open spots. So the information I have is that ODAR is requesting additional names so they will have the 270-300 size pool of applicants. So bottom line is that this cert may not be done yet...

So we could see another 100 - 130 folks getting an email. I don't think the scores will go too low. The top of the bell curve is in the 71 - 73 range from what I can recall, but this is great news for folks who were a hair under the 73.41 score mentioned as the 'low' score. Thanks for posting this?

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but it seems unlikely they would add 100+ people to current certs at this late date.

Thanks for posting this. But I don't think OPM will agree to it. They've already referred about 20 names per vacancy. Even with overlaps, that's nearly enough to fill every vacancy twice over. And they don't want to give SSA too much freedom to three-strike high scorers in order to get to lower scorers.

That low score may be applicable only for one unpopular location. I agree with robespierre--I don't see them adding that many people to the certs. ODAR can't actually use that many candidates for these certs even with full hiring and full use of their 3-strike. In light of people dropping locations ODAR could well need a few more and OPM might give them a few extra just in case, but I don't think they'll be adding a hundred to these certs.

This whole process has seemed so complicated thus far that going back to OPM for additional names might throw off all the dates that SSA has to meet their scheduling and job offers.

Funky, if you will write 2 affirmations and 1 reversal. I will absolve you from your past sins and allow you to return to the Board immediately. I know you gotta be chomping at the bit. Furthermore, the herd is getting restless without your sage wisdom and latest direction. I sorely fear stampede. Please??

This would be such a radical departure from past practices. Our polling suggests most people aren't cutting very many cities. If for example, in a moment of collective disinterest in the lovely Pacific Northwest - we all cut Spokane and Eugene - ODAR could probably dip into the transfer list and fill those jobs, creating vacancies in cities with "hireable" new candidates. Conversely, if absolutely NO ONE (or, more likely, "not enough") from the register wanted to go to Shreveport, Louisiana or Harlingen Texas (with all due respect to our Region 6 comrades), they might have to grab some backfills for security there.
But, I can't see how they would go back and grad 100 to 130 more candidates, roughly 60 to 75 percent of the number estimated to be on the current certificate list. If this happens, we can pretty much throw out what we know about past certificates - this will be, truly (and, to be fair, it has been a significantly different ride this time around, in many ways) a different ballgame.

Having a cert of 270 for 90 spots would not throw out what we know aobut past certs. Rather it would be typical of past certs. Just to be clear, my information doesn't have anything to o with people throwing off cities. Typcially, for a 90 ALJ hire, they would have 270 applicants and that is not what they have this time because of the fact they have to request a cert unique to each city. My info is that when they increased from 3 candidates per city to 5, it really only added a very small number of unique names. My intel is that increasing the number of names per city (from 5) would add more names to the cert and get up to the desired 270

They do not need 270 candidates for 90 slots regardless of whether it is one big cert for all locations or separate certs for each location. If none of the candidates had struck any cities or suspended from the register I expect the 168 on these certs would have been sufficient whether there was one big cert as in the past or separate city certs.

Sufficient, yes, but the fact is, under past practice with a single cert there would have been 270-300 names on a cert for 90 slots.

But the additional candidates would never be within reach on the cert because there would be no maneuvering that could put them in the top 3 for any slot no matter how much ODAR liked them. I think OPM has recognized this and decided not to provide many (if any) candidates who cannot be within reach on a round of certs. And has decided that giving ODAR a peek at lower scoring candidates is not sufficient reason for OPM to put them on a cert.

Yeah - I'm not ruling this out as "impossible", but every day we don't hear about these emails going out makes it more and more improbable, as the timeframe for report dates and training - realistically, we're talking about emails going out between today and Friday, May 23 - at the latest - and at that late a date would be getting an email, having to get your stuff back in, be scheduled for and attend the ODAR interview, all in 21 days.
So, I remain skeptical, although I'm not doubting the veracity of the OP.

That is great news about the total number of hires. Hopefully that will include some new locations not on these certs. As far as adding names to these certs, color me skeptical too. I don't see how they do that logistically with interviews only a few weeks away. As for the next certs, ODAR may be used to getting more names per opening, but it really can't know whether more names are needed per opening until it goes through this first round of hiring. Beancounter: I hope you're right about adding some locations - at least a couple of mine!

It seems like in the past several months any number of theories have been predicated on an inside source passing on that "ODAR is not happy" with some aspect of the OPM process and that something would change as a result. Unless I am missing something, none of the predicted changes based on "ODAR unhappiness" have actually panned out.

I don't think that's what happened. Look at the "May 2, 2014 ODAR Cert cities" poll. It shows that as to some cities, as many as 37 people report that they were referred. And that's just among the readership of this board. Don't get me wrong ... I really appreciate you posting what you heard!
