If you are an outsider, has someone contacted you about travel arrangements as described in the interview confirmation email? I got my interview call on Friday but haven't heard from anyone about travel arrangements yet and was curious if anyone else had.

I haven't, but I'm not concerned since the note said only to call if we haven't heard by 7 days before travel. No rush, apparently.

Relax about the travel call. In 2010, we were getting those calls less than a week before interview dates. The government does not worry about things like advance purchase of airline tickets, evidently. If memory serves, the folks doing those arrangements even called some people on the weekend.

The airlines love government travel agencies who could get beat on a cheaper ticket price by a chimp with a keyboard.

The government has contract airfare rates with the airlines. The price is the same no matter when the travel is booked.

I'm an insider, but my travel is booked and invoiced. One more mission, then more waiting.

Thanks, everyone. It's just a little frustrating because I need time to make childcare arrangements, etc based on when I'm leaving. I'm assuming they will put you up the night before if you have an early morning interview?

I'm assuming they will put you up the night before if you have an early morning interview? Yes. They will put you up for longer if the distance and the schedule requires, as it did in my case. You make your own hotel arrangements, they reimburse up to federal per diem rate (for outsiders, anyway, that's the way it works)

Forgive me Hal, but not sure what you are asking. I got an email confirming the interview date and time given to me on the phone. There was an attachment to it that had instructions on how to book travel. I got that within an hour of the phone call.
As an insider, it was easy. We were instructed to just use E2 to book like any other official travel and I already did that. I didn't pay too much attention to the instrux for outsiders as they didn't apply to me. Are outsiders waiting on some additional email? Did I miss something and we are all waiting on a second email? Or are you asking about the email from odar with the instrux I referenced above?

Ah, cool. Thanks for the clarification. Was afraid I had missed something and maybe jumped the gun on making my arrangements.

Anybody know if insiders and other feds get a per diem for travel and interview days?
