"This nation will remain the Land of the Free for only so long as it is the Home of the Brave." - Elmer Davis
I'm going to be off the boards thru the holiday weekend, but before I go I wanted to wish everyone a happy Memorial day. Our little virtual community is populated with many who proudly served this great country. I am grateful to each of you and am honored to have had the opportunity to meet you, even if it's just through silly avatars and pm friendships.
Whether you are a former sailor, soldier, marine, civilian public servant or private citizen just now hoping for the chance to serve, always remember that this country wasn't merely created out of thin air as the greatest on earth. It was forged with the blood, lives, sweat and dedication of those before us. It will remain so only if those in its service and who seek to serve follow their example.
Have a great weekend and good luck all.

"This nation will remain the Land of the Free for only so long as it is the Home of the Brave." - Elmer Davis And - as a reminder - while we do honor our living veterans at this time, our primary focus should be on remembering the men and women who served, in whatever capacity during our past conflicts, and who are no longer with us - particularly those that made the ulimate sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day to all in our little eCommunity! Merica.

Thank you to all who served or do serve to make us free and safe. Thank you to the families of those who serve or have served for giving freely of your loved ones to serve. May we remember all who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Bless you all!

I appreciate all the vets on the board and their sacrifices. Particularly, those who sacrificed their bodies in service. I agree with Ace however, the day is a day of remembrance for those who gave the last full measure in service to this great country.

Yes, eat your hotdogs (just not moopig), spend time with loved ones, have a blast, but observe that moment of silence, and never forgot those who gave the ultimate sacrifice heeding the call.

That's why I've made a point to go to Arlington on most of my DC visits...no better place in this country to remember.

The changing of the guard and the solemnity of the event at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier is worth experiencing. We need to respect those who have died to preserve our freedoms.

:-[Our military is entirely voluntary this day and age. In prior engagements, with the exception of WWII, where there were a lot of volunteers, draftees were thrown into the maelstrom. Regardless, we owe all those a debt that can never be repaid. So this Memorial Day, I hope and pray that everyone, regardless of their political leanings, will come together and help assure our wounded and medically needy veterans will be taken care of.

From PTSD to TBI to all types of other injuries endured by our wounded veterans, we need to encourage the President and Congress to help fix the problems at the VA to help those who have given their all to serve their country.
