I assume sratty would have knowledge of any such conference call, but that's an interesting rumor regardless. Calendar year for folks not inclined to visit TOB.

"The other board"
If you read the welcome thread on this board, you will find a link to TOB and a warning about the type of things you might encounter over there.

"The Other Board". I won't get into the history of it, which is explained elsewhere, but the link is in the "other sites of interest" thread toward the top of the main page.

TOB is reporting 200 new hires this year. Color me dubious at best and mostly not happenin'.... Since I refuse to go over to TOB on principle, is the gist that they are going to schedule the interviews and then do the hiring of another 100 by 12/31?

I did not look at the report on the other board. However, even if true, I would take the news cautiously. No one is saying 200 ALJ hires. These could include or only be staff hires, exclusive of the ALJ hires already contemplated with the current interviews.

I can confirm in the manager call today Sklar specifically said there is an "aggressive path" to "hire" a goal of "200 by the end of the year." and yes that means ALJ hires.

That suggests another 100+ in a second set of certs. Aggressive certainly, but doable by the end of the calendar year. And it is certainly consistent with the inquiries about office space, etc., Sratty reported to us previously.

Do we know how many folks are being hired from the current cert? I recall 90 being the number and that training would take place in September and October. That would require training in November and December unless they hire the folks in December time frame and have them report to training in January. 110 more judges would need to be hired this calendar year.

With the addition of a location recently, it could perhaps be a few more. Of course they don't have to hire for all those slots, but it sounds like they are in a hiring mood.

wow. that's a lot of ALJ's. Great time to have made cert. i have not heard this rumor but am way too out of the loop on rumors these days anyways. however, it makes tons of sense. it's an election year and who knows what the 2015 Congress will do with the budget so if we currently have the budget to hire, best to add as many folks as we can. thanks sratty for the word

My guess is they would make offers/hires this year with training to occur in early 2015. Other WAGs... they won't actually hire 200 but will hire a little shy of 200 by the end of the year if this happens. There will be a third cert in late spring 2015 for a smaller number of hires to get to the 200ish level. Again, not inside info, but the timing makes sense given the budget they have through FY2015.

Actually it was my understanding based upon previous posts that SSA/ODAR wants to get to 240 hires within two years. So, actually there could be an additional small hire next year for 40 ALJs on top of the 200 ALJs from this calendar year, if all the information is right.

TOB is reporting 200 new hires this year. Commissioner Colvin testified to the House Oversight Committee today that she has authorized the hiring of 200 ALJs by the end of this year. So I would assume that this is very likely to happen.

Now if they will just put one or two (or more!) of my cities on a cert, I would have a shot!

Yes, the conference call did say 200 new judges by the end of the year. I generally don't like to report what I hear on those calls, as the speaker might consider the remarks confidential. However, I wouldn't think this news is confidential, especially as the Commissioner has made a public statement about it.
Now is a very good time to be on the register with a score high enough to be referred to the agency.

Now if they will just put one or two (or more!) of my cities on a cert, I would have a shot! As mentioned in another thread, there have been inquiries of all of the hearing offices as to availability of ALJ offices (as well as staff work stations and offices). The inquiry as to available judges' offices always precedes the hiring of judges to fill those offices. I think they will fill as many empty offices as they can, so this ought to open up a variety of cities that weren't included on the the last cert. Maybe some of your your cities will come open.
