I understand that there will be a posting for staff attorney vacancies at the Baltimore and Falls Church National Hearing Centers this coming Monday, January 7, on USAJOBS, and that a limited number of applications will be accepted. If you know folks who are interested, you my want to let them know.

The NHCs and centralized writing units are the future for hearing and writing levels.
At some point, there may be a consolidation of the field office and front end ODAR functions, but there will come a time, in the not so distant future, that the majority of hearings will be VTC, and the geographic location of judge and writer will be, effectively, irrelevant.
Reject that assertion at your own peril.

Reject that assertion at your own peril. That is the direction of the future. While having decisions written outside the office has never been particularly successful, with the current backlog approaching a million cases, anything to speed the process might be a good thing. It would certainly beat not having the decisions written at all. The times, they are a changing.
