In reading thru the postings done over the long holiday weekend, I noted several discussions on when and how ssa offers would come spread out over three of four threads. So, I thought I'd marshall the info into one place.
When will offer calls start?
Some weeks ago, three different people advised thru pm that people in the know told them offers would begin going out "mid July". That has now been confirmed in OCALJ emails and a few other sources. One of our alj members posted she had reliable intel the calls would begin July 9. That's Wednesday folks.
Who will call, what number and when?
The calls have traditionally come from Bob Gehlken, tho some have reported their offer calls came from an unidentified female in Bob's office. The area code on the call is reportedly 703. My call to set up the interview was from a lady, but I cant recall or find her name anywhere. As to the number they will call, in our cert forms we listed our preferred number. Most seem to get calls there. But some have reported receiving the call at home numbers when they werent there or at work numbers. Be safe, monitor them all. As to when, one would think 8 to 5 EST, Monday thru Friday. But they may work late to reach west coasters and don't forget, someone in that office was working Supplemental Saturday.....
How long will it take?
There has been a ton of talk about this. Judge Bice's recent email, and other intel, has suggested it will take several weeks for all offers to go out. The new process apparently requires an acceptance of an offer before the next offer can be made. With a reported allowance of at least 24 hours for a candidate to consider an offer, that is certainly feasible. With the new preference ranking though, many on the boards dont think it will take more than a couple weeks. I agree with that theory.
If I dont get a call?
It has long been known they want to hire 90 this round. It is also well established they dont always fill every slot they initially intended to. Still, I and most others on the board posit they will offer close to the 90. With a cert of only 168 (and a handful of that number have declined consideration or now accepted omha offers) it looks like the best odds ever for certers. But, many of us will be disappointed.
From what I gather, we wont get any kind of notice that we arent being selected till way later when we get a email. With offers possibly estending for weeks, it will be anxiously waiting in the dark. Surely we will note when people all together stop reporting offers. If that happens and you didnt get the call, it will be a bummer. But all is not lost (unless you were three struck).
I posted in the second certer thread that I was told a judge who wanted to be on these recent interview panels and wasnt selected was told the next interviews would be in November. So that implies a September or early October second round of certs. If not thrice struck and that round of cities is on your gal, you should make it and be pretty high on the lists.
If our intel is accurate, these next couple of weeks are gonna be gloriously exciting for some of our number and disheartening for others. I wish all of you folks good luck and hope I will be one of the ones celebrating in FC with the lucky few. If not, I will keep the faith with the second cert hopefuls. I plan to keep a watchful eye on the boards for the next several days, but anxiety will likely keep me from posting much. Keep the faith, keep sane and keep funky.
