Maybe this is the calm before the storm and offers really will start going out tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know the drill - marathon, not a sprint, and whatnot.

People might want to recall that the guy who did the deed marathons commemorate ran the distance, delivered his message, and thereupon died. Now I'm not saying that fate will befall any of the Board's marathon runners, but if it does that's more second cert vacancies.

Wasn't there a marathoner, female type, that ran in Hawaii years ago and fell just prior to the finish line and soiled herself, IIRC??? Gary, my scenario is probably more likely than yours.. JMHO, as always.

Bart, I remember watching it on TV wondering if she was going to survive. I believe it was a triathlon, but same principle. You are probably right, and it is a more likely scenario than replicating the original marathon. However, I imagine if it happened to some of the people on the Board they would die of embarrassment and we'd still have a few more vacancies for the second set of certs.

The program Radio Lab has a fantastic podcast called "Limits" that includes an interview with Julie Moss, the woman who collapsed within a few hundred yards of the finish line at the 1982 Ironman Trialthon. You can also find the footage on Youtube. Notably, while Julie Moss had to crawl across the finish line and lost first place, she did finish the race in second. I would be happy placing so well in our current competition.

Its one thing to hide under a dead body, its quite another to wish the man in front of you dead.

But just in case something unfortunate occurs, I believe in being prepared to step over the body as a service to those behind me.

Just goes to show you that Internet anonymity brings out some real bad character traits if you don't have a system in place to hold people accountable. Tell me about it . . .

In some ways, it is nice to be a second-certer, so I do not have to wait for the possible phone call this time. I know eventually I may be in that position and I will be as nervous as everyone else on the first-cert, but for now it is nice to kick back and not have to worry one way or the other. I wish all of those waiting good luck with their chance at an ALJ opportunity.

Except I can't wait for the first certers to be done so us hopeful second certers can start this part of the process!

There is one vote on the "Cert 1 Offer Poll 4: City" poll for Tupelo. Is that new?

Just got a call from 703 area code, I thought great, ODAR here I come!
It was OMHA wanting a second interview by phone this afternoon. Great news, but wasn't the phone call I was hoping for from (703). I thought I was out of the running for OMHA, but I live to see another day.
Good luck to everyone!
