In honor of Funky Friday, given the New York Seinfeldian references with my understanding that Middlesboro is in Kentucky, I present my personal favorite and my very own North and South. I'm no ETOH specialist, btw.
Few ounces of Vo (Canadian whiskey) Fill with Cheerwine (Born in the South. Raised in a glass.)
Repeat. Repeat. Call Bob. Repeat.
Congrats again to Funky, J., and all the other newly minted. May I and many others join you sooner or later!

Lots of good news this week, with a little frustration at the process. But we appear to not yet be halfway, so there's lots of good news to be had. As Winston Churchill said, "Never, never, never give up." Ol' Winston liked a martini, so today's Drink of the Day is the Churchill Lemontini:
2 oz Tanqueray® gin 6 oz lemonade
Pour it. Drink it. Keep the faith. Repeat as necessary.

Hopefully everyone had a chance for stress relief this weekend and we can keep the stress at a manageable level going forward. To that end, today's Drink of the Day is the Summer Chill:
1 1/2 oz vodka 1/2 oz banana syrup 1/4 oz lemon juice 2 oz orange juice 1 slice of banana
Shake well over ice (at least 10 sec.), strain into a pre-chilled martini glass and garnish with a banana slice. Repeat as necessary.
Edit:
Simple syrup is equal parts water and sugar, heated until the sugar dissolves and then cooled. It'll last weeks in the refrigerator and can be used to sweeten coffee, iced tea, etc. If you mash or puree one banana and add it to the syrup mixture while you heat it up, you'll make the most simple banana syrup (strain out all of the banana pieces before storing or it will spoil quickly). One banana will flavor 2-3 cups of simple syrup (1-1.5 cups each of water and sugar), so feel free to adjust as needed.
Or make a fancier version for breakfast, and set some aside for evening cocktails:
1/2 cup pure maple syrup 1 cup mashed ripe bananas 1 tsp banana extract 1 Tbsp lemon juice
Heat syrup and bananas in small saucepan for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in extract and lemon juice.

The banana syrup sounds like old fashioned novacaine.

Ah, Monday . . . the beginning of a new week, full of promise. Time to raise another toast to Bob (and it's totally permissible to include the words "call me" or "e-mail me" within your toast!). Today's Drink of the Day is the Bob'arita:
2 oz Jose Cuervo® Especial gold tequila 1 oz Cointreau® orange liqueur 1/4 lime
Shake Cointreau and Tequila in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into salted rim glass over rocks. Squeeze two lime wedges and stir gently. Raise a toast to Bob; keep the faith. Repeat as necessary.

BL,
If one goes as Nick Charles said in "The Thin Man", to what song do you 'shake' to make this delighful concoction?

BL, you have taken on the solemn responsibility of providing us with a recipe a day, 365 days a year, so we can kill off those pesky surplus brain cells.

As an ode to one of last Friday's hires... a Funky Cold Medina:
1 oz vodka 1 oz blue curacao 1 oz Southern Comfort 1 oz cranberry juice
In a shaker, add ice and the first three ingredients above. Shake well and dump your cocktail and ice into a good sized cocktail glass. Pour the cranberry juice on top and choose whether you want to stir it in or not. As an additional enhancement, feel free to turn on Tone Loc's song of the same name as you imbibe.

Oh, sweet board members, the day is young! In addition to hopefalj's Funky Cold Medina, today's Drink of the Day pays tribute to holding ourselves together through the half-way point. While I really prefer Boddington's, I'll happily drink a Half and Half:
1 part Harp® lager 1 part Guinness® stout
Fill 1/2 a pint glass with Harp. Slowly fill the remainder of the glass with Guinness, pouring it slowly over the back side of a sthingy sp00n as to layer it nicely on top. Makes two drinks, so either share with a friend or drink two! Repeat as necessary.
Other "halfsies" you may like:
Black and Tan (Guinness on Bass) Black and Brown (Guinness on root beer) Black and Blue (Guinness on Blue Moon or Labatt Blue) Black and Red (Guinness on Killian's Irish Red); aka Garnet and Black to Gamecocks fans Black and Sam (Guinness on Sam Adams) Black and White (Guinness on Great White)

To have the requisite strength to stay in the hunt, I recommended a fortified drink. My personal favorite in the heat of the summer is one part Lillet Blanc to two parts sparkling water in a tall glass over ice. Garnish with lemon, lime or other citrus. However a word of caution. Lillet contains quinine.
Yes, I drink it-- for relief of muscle cramps. You betcha. Haven't had a cramp in years.

I'd planned to make redryder's Lillet Blanc cocktail today's drink, but given moopigsdad's sad news, today's Drink of the Day is the Bulldog Highball: 2 oz gin juice of 1/2 orange ginger ale Pour gin and orange juice into a highball glass over ice cubes. Fill with ginger ale and stir. Raise a toast to Moopig, or to your own long lost best friend. Repeat as necessary. R.I.P. Moopig.

And for those of us teetotalers, a Virgin Bulldog (OJ & ginger ale), will also do.
Here's to little MooPig!

And allow me an editorial note about gin as almost all (IMHO) are junk. None other than John MacDonald and his anti-hero Travis McGee turned me on to Boodles and Plymouth. If you see any of these two in the spirit store and like gin, buy a bottle. You won't be disappointed. After a hard day (having slogged through the nasties with counsel), a double with either over the rocks with two over-sized olives gives hope. Two and you might even recommend law school to your progeny.

When I drink gin it always tastes like I'm drinking a Christmas tree. I always think aftershave. But, I will try anything 47 times. Kinda stupid like that.
