My report date is August 25th with training in Falls Church September 15 - October 10th. That is what little I know, as fact. I "believe" that offers are going out very differently than in the past. It will take a long time to work through the process. Unfortunately I do not know how much time Bob is providing candidates to consider offers since I accepted right away. He did mention Morgantown being my #1 ranked preference and that I lived in Morgantown. So maybe this time around they are attempting to place folks, where they can, in places the candidates will actually accept and stay put, which takes a whole lot more effort than "take it or leave it." But all that is just my personal opinion. The process of hiring off a register is very rigid and SSA has to follow the OPM rules for each separate certificate. If I were to guess....and this is only a guess...they are probably trying to clear certs with high scoring CPS vets first, so there will be no rhyme or reason to how the offers are coming out.
PS. CPS - The passover of a CPS vet for a non-vet requires OPM passover procedures be followed...which would substantially slow down the process since the position cannot be filled until the passover is resolved (unless there are multiple positions in that particular office that could be filled by the vet if OPM does not sustain an objection)

am - very kind of you to share what you know with the anxiously waiting crowd, and congrats! I think your theory sounds extremely plausible...but what's CPS?

Now that we have discussed your preference eligibility and the associated points, let's discuss preference groups. Preference eligibles are divided into four basic groups as follows: ■ CPS - Disability rating of 30% or more (10 points) ■ CP - Disability rating of at least 10% but less than 30% (10 points) ■ XP - Disability rating less than 10% (10 points) ■ TP - Preference eligibles with no disability rating (5 points) www.fedshirevets.gov/job/vetpref/

Without getting into the specifics of the questions I got the feeling they were attempting to put people in places they want to be---just a feeling.

I am sure SSA wouldn't have asked for preferences, if they were not going to use them to some extent. It will be easier to meet the preferences of those with the highest scores, but not as likely to be the same for those with lower scores.

And, trying to match preferences early on avoids the domino effect they would likely see if they had any number of people declining an offer. So, it gets the high scorers in the fold, and then the rest will hopefully settle out as they work their way through. Even taking into consideration our 35 percent coverage, they are moving VERY slowly. At this pace, it will take "several weeks". I suspect that things may speed up a little, but we will see.

I am thinking it will easily take several weeks. All that is important is that SSA fills 45 positions by hopefully July 25 (giving a month's notice for those selected to wrap up items) and then SSA could take longer for the second group of 45 positions finishing no later than mid-August (meeting a month's notice deadline for them, too.). So, in some ways, SSA could still be filling ALJ slots easily into August prior to finishing up 90 or close to 90 spots. It will be excruciating for those waiting for the word of "Yes or No" if it goes that long. Just to think this may be my fate in the second cert, if I am selected for it makes me a little nauseous.

I agree. The last two days have been the most difficult part of this entire process. And not just for me, my spouse and kids want/need to know if/when they will be going to a new school or quitting a job as summer moves along.

This is where being an insider really sucks. Everyone in the office knows offers started going out yesterday. They are accustomed to past practice where all offers went out over one or two days. So every quarter hour I get some version of this convo: " hey, heard they are making offers, you get one?" "Not yet." "Sorry dude." "Not over yet, looks like it may take weeks." "Hm...well, keep your head up."

Unconfirmed report - Bob G may have gone to lunch. This is an implied promise that I will not e-stalk Mr. G after the relevant period.
This is "situational" stalking.

I "liked" this post because I agree with it, not because I am pleased with MPD's, as always, extremely logical conclusions. We need an "agree" button for just such situations.

I'm so tired of everything being up in the air (as is my spouse). We are prepared now to make a move if an offer comes, but it's really aggravating not knowing if it will happen or where we will go. I almost wish I didn't know offers were being made and could just be pleasantly surprised if/when I get a call.

Still all reported offers for cities east of the Mississippi. No region V where a lot of the cities with presumed openings. What an interesting and torturous process.

I think at some point, max momentum will have built up (maybe after the group AM talked about in her first post) and the offers will come faster. I'd be interested to know what happens if someone declines a lower-ranked city ("Don't like Cleveland? How about Tupelo?"). Is there a follow-up offer with a higher-ranked city? In other words, are they hiring the person or a body for a specific location? Conventional wisdom has it that you don't decline an offer from SSA or you will commit register suicide. Does that wisdom still hold up under the current ranked GAL process?
