MPD - I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Our pets become like family and it hurts to lose one. I have a cut out of Ann Landers column "Thank you for caring" on my fridge, in memory of my pets waiting for me.

So sorry for your loss; our guys & girls are a part of the family. They give us so much and all they want is our love. Remember the unconditional love. Peace and Blessings. Lady Wordsmith

Oh MPD! You know I've tread that path (several times) too, and held each one till the very end. Toughest and best thing I could do at the time. My heart goes out to you. We all will miss the MooPig costume-of-the-season avatars. She was such a cutie! What a great life-partner she had in you. What a great life she had with you. May all the smiles she gave you - from goofy puppy to wizened fashionista - live on in your heart.

You have my condolences, MPD.
My dog lost her battle eight years ago and truth be told there is not a day I don't miss her. She handled us putting her down far, far better than we did and held us as much as we held her. Her nobility of spirit and quiet acceptance taught me a great deal. When I am fully finished grieving her and have the time to spend with a pup I will begin the twelve or thirteen year relationship again.

I am so sorry for your loss mpd! Iimagine how difficult this time must be for you and your family. Take comfort in knowing you had such a great companion for such a long time and you were able to give her a loving home. I am sure she felt lucky to have landed such a loving human.

I will be taking a hiatus from the Board in honor of my bulldog who crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night. She was almost 11 1/2 years old and had developed a chemodactoma a while back and was suffering. I did the humane thing (one of the hardest decisions I had to make in my life) and stopped her suffering. Her quality of life was gone. She will be missed greatly. Take care and good luck to all as I do not know when I will be back on the Board again right now. I just wanted you to know, if I do not post for a while. Deepest sympathy to you moopigsdad. I, too, have experienced such a loss, four previous times, and it doesn't get any easier. You did the right thing. I am sure she is running around in puppy heaven.

My hearts aches for you and your family. I have lost cherished dogs before, too. Try to remember how happy she was to be a part of your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss, MPD. I'm a lurker on the board, but I read it often enough it felt like I knew MP, and I always loved seeing the icon/avatar. Condolences.
I admit I am glad to see so many dog lovers on the board, though -- might be the right crew for me.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments and posts to this thread. It is nice to know both Moo-Pig and I are so kindly thought of by many of you on this Board. Your wonderful words have been a comfort to my family and me at this time of grieving. I am not officially coming back to the Board yet, but I may be back by the weekend. I can only say losing our little girl (she was our dogter (daughter) for 11 1/2 years) has been very hard on my family and me. However, your support and condolences for us have been helpful. Thank you all again for all your support and kindness at this difficult time.

Dear MPD -- I have not posted in a while but I have been following this Board since 2009. I do not know what to say but simply I am so deeply sorry. While I know there are no words that will be able to comfort you now in this time of loss, I just wanted to share this poem of Lord Byron with you as I think it is a powerful poem.
Your "dogter" was your Boatswain. INSCRIPTION ON THE MONUMENT OF A NEWFOUNDLAND DOG. A Memorial to Boatswain by Lord Byron
Near this spot Are deposited the Remains of one Who possessed Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices. This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery If inscribed over human ashes, Is but a just tribute to the Memory of BOATSWAIN, a DOG Who was born at Newfoundland, May, 1803, And died at Newstead, Nov 18th, 1808.
