Should I be fortunate enough to be hired down the road and this become a live issue for me, I am with MPD and would prefer an opt-in rather than an opt-out. If the 44 people directly affected are all fine with the opt-out for this list, then in the words of the pope, who am I to judge?

If SSA is making the list available to those who request it, it is, for all intents and purposes, already public within the group of August newbies. Funky, thank you for the information. I have no issues with any of your methods. You are, as always, generous with your time and intelligence, and sensitive to those wishing a few more weeks of anonymity.

I, for one, am in the process of scrubbing my online presence. I opted for redaction because I'd like a few more weeks before people start Googling me. My fellow office mate and I have exchanged PMs, and I really can't imagine anyone else out there needs to know who I am right now. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone in person. Over drinks, of course.

Hm, more to consider. While I still think there is very little harm in sharing the names of people in the class with others in the class, I recognize people's concerns.
I think I am just not gonna release the names to anyone. Not because I personally believe it's any kind of issue, but the fact that others do means to do it in a way that appeases everyone is just too much work and consumes time i just don't have at this point.
Many people posted their acceptance of an offer anonymously thru me. As a result of that, I have been receiving more than a few requests by people hired to a certain office to be connected with others that have been hired there or nearby. That requires me to check back thru my PMs, find the other person, send them a PM asking if they would like to be connected with the requestor, then wait for a response and relay that response to the requestor. I had hoped being able to pass along this list might belay that process or at least simplify it some. But, releasing the names just isnt worth the headache.
Thanks to the anonymous alj tipster that provided the list. To those several others that told me they have seen the list or even have a copy of it....do with yours what you deem appropriate.

Funky, You took on a task (whether with full forethought or incrementally by request) that quite frankly is fraught with downside. I can't imagine what your PM IN Box looks like. All I can say is, better you than me brother. My hat's off to you. As a lawyer it's my nature to want to know all I can about a case or a situation before I walk into the courtroom. I'm the same way with respect to new situations and environments. Though I have shared my real name and location with 4 others on the board, and they have shared theirs with me, I have done so with the understanding that each of us will keep the other one's identity confidential. I have no problem with the list being shared with my classmates and I, but I know, I sure wouldn't have taken this task on. I think your decision to not share it and let time cure the problem, and the curiosity, will be a lot less taxing on you. I think you have made a wise call. But ... since you seem willing to take on such monumental tasks, how about coming and helping me pack and move. I sure could use the help. ht

You are a better man than I am Funky, but no surprise there. Back when I was younger and thought I was robust enough to help someone move, I never settled for just beer--there always had to be pizza too.

Back when I was younger and thought I was robust enough to help someone move, I never settled for just beer--there always had to be pizza too. Back in the dark ages, when I helped friends move or had friends help me, the ground rule was that the beer didn't get served until AFTER the moving part was done. No telling how much furniture was saved as a result of that rule.

Funky,
I don't see what the big deal is, but to each his own, IMHO. Tiger

The Union rep in my new office released the list of the 45 newbies starting in August. So no one is anonymous any longer.

To release inside ODAR information to anyone, that ODAR has not yet made public, especially before you have actually been hired, is extremely risky. You worked too hard to get here. Don't do it. I was sent the list at work and it can't opened on my home computer when I checked email because it is protected.

Or maybe I use it enough that my auto-correct gave up? Lol.

Try "y'all." Oooooh.... no wonder I wasn't picked up on the first cert for those southern cities. Thanks for the tip, eh.

Me neither, zepp, so maybe you should take someone else's advice. But I think you might be set for Buffalo or something bordering on Canada, eh?

Neither of the two versions I have now seen have any of the usual confidentiality language. That said, I still wont release what was sent to me to anyone. Not worth the hassle. Will say though, no one should expect much anonymity as an alj. Any alj's dispositions, pay rate etc are public with a simple google search. Your name and office, which is all this list is, certainly is. You can even find every federal employees salary with a quick google. By name. Welcome to public service.

I was going to post something similar yesterday because it's true... anonymity and privacy are going to largely be a thing of the past. Your salary, your pay/deny rates, complaints against you, etc. will all be out there for the world to see. However, I'm glad you decided against it because MPD raised a good point. Even if it is the last 9 days of relative anonymity, people should be allowed to enjoy those last nine days. Nine more days. Yikes.
