I recommend to our new ALJs who are not vets to have a drink with your favorite vets in your class and get some tips about keeping your private life private and keeping you safe. Maybe FC training does some of that, but I bet no training is better than what is drilled into your brain when you are serving in uniform.

To clarify, I mean the training about how to act in garrison or on shore (civilian-proximate), not the combat stuff.

Yes but I didn't want to scare anyone. I so hope we both get picked up on the next round and train together -- I want you to teach me how to be a Ninja Judge.

Lol. But beware to any claimants' reps who would try to be familiar with me, unless they would like to know what it means to be "dressed down."

I have been watching this entire thread with interest, but must respectfully fail to see arguable merit to any counterpoint to Funky's name list plan..
Publishing names of ALJ's? No harm.
Example: In the "old days" not only were everyone's names published and broadcast by third parties across the land, but their home addresses and telephone numbers as well, for anyone and all to see. We used to call these "telephone books".
Someone mentioned "Privacy Act" issue? No.
As a former filer of many FOIA/PA requests demands, please note that federal Privacy Act does not, by statutory definition, apply to any state, corporation or individual. 5 U.S.C.§552A et seq. The Privacy Act applies only by law to federal agencies and then in only one direction (outward release by a federal agency); not bi-directionally. Neither the Privacy ACT, nor the FOIA nor the EFOIIA act in any manner to control or bar the submittal of emails, e-documents, faxes, notes, documents, reports, etc by any state, corporation or individual.
The entirety of any right to privacy held by individuals was acutely summarized by S. Ct. Justice Scalia on 07/29/12 in MSNBC interview: "There is no right to privacy. No generalized right to privacy." Or more bluntly in regard to Americans' long perceived thought that there exists unto them a sacred right of privacy in their affairs and ongoings he referred to same on 09/25/13 in McLean VA as: "blah blah blah, garbage.”
Funky I believe Justice Scalia has pre-cleared your runway for take-off as planned. Go forth.

Go forth. I think the issue is dead and I agree with you about the futility of trying to remain anonymous a few weeks before you spend 4 weeks in a class room together, but to each his own. But I would do exactly as Funky did when so many balked at the idea.

Exactly Tiger. Regardless of the "legality" (or not) surrounding this release of names, if Funky received push back from individuals who do not want their actual names released on this board, at this particular time, no matter thier reason, why on earth would we expect Funky to do something that is going to make, at least some of his fellow classmates , pissed...at him? Funky has done nothing except try to help folks on this board. Let this issue die a natural death and quit bothering Funky about it.

Hear! Hear! AgilityMom.
What's our next topic?
I, for one, would like to determine which Hotel in FC is going to be our CP (Command Post). ... or for those of you in the service after me ... TOC (Tactical Operations Center).
I stayed at the Homewood Suites and thought they were fairly nice.
Any other thoughts from those more familiar with the terrain?

Any other thoughts from those more familiar with the terrain? ht You should receive an email with all the details of the where and when soon after your start date. Residence Inn in Pentagon City area of Arlington has been the usual site for training of all sorts to include ALJ training so if they choose that one again it's nice. It's close to the metro and shopping within walking distance. Not to mention free breakfast and after hours snacks.

Some info that may be helpful to all newbies: 1.the hotel you will be staying at is indeed the Residence Inn. 2. The rooms are nice little studio apts which are equipped with a full size fridge, a stove top, a dishwasher, a sink, and all the plates, pots, and silverware you need. If you bring/buy food to make your own meals you can save a lot of $$. There is a supermarket close by as well as a huge mall a block away. 3. The hotel does have free breakfast and dinners several nights per week--again this can save $. 4. You will receive a BIG packet of documents before you get to your duty station; some needs to be returned ASAP some can wait for completion at duty station. 5. You will receive a government issued credit card with funds on it to be used during training. 6. There is a garage in the hotel for those of you driving--there is a monthly rate you can get--costs are reimbursed. 7. On the whole list of names thing--list was emailed out I believe to union members, so it's out there and like others said prior--will be public knowledge soon if not already so I wouldn't sweat it. HOPE ALL OF THIS HELPS!

Do they have a shuttle for the new hires, from the hotel to the training?

Small, small world. While not attending training this time around, I did live down the street from said Residence Inn for a very, very long time, so I'm happy to help with recommendations. While there is a Harris-Teeter within walking distance, it's much cheaper if you have a military connection to go to the Fort Myer commissary, only a five minute drive up the hill through Henderson Hall. Fort Myer also has a gas station, and the Henderson Hall Marine Corps Exchange is where all the Generals shop for their spouses -- not kidding.
Also, plenty of running trails, albeit on concrete. And watch out for potholes when you're driving in the immediate area around that Residence Inn.
I also had a nice chat with a retired CJCS at the local Starbucks in Pentagon Row. I thought I recognized his face from a painting, and I was right!
PM me with questions and I'll respond with what I know. Happy to help however I can.

Do they have a shuttle for the new hires, from the hotel to the training? Yes. Every day everyone will meet at a designated time to depart to training. No cost. Just board the bus.

Also, plenty of running trails, albeit on concrete. And watch out for potholes I run. If there are others in the 09/15 class who would like to run (albeit "run" is a generic term.....avg. 11 min mi @4 mi for how fast and far info) I will likely be doing post class early evening jaunts. I have run the mall area multiple times over the years, but not familiar with trails in the area we will be training.

A great run in that case is from hotel through Crystal City to the Crystal City Water Park to the Mount Vernon Trail. Go north on the trail towards Washington and you can then turn around at Gravely Point, where you can also watch a 737 fly 500' over your head, on short final into National. Gravely Point is also a great place for picnics, field sports, taking the kids for a stroll, etc., and within walking distance. Have a great run!

I'm hoping to get back up to speed before FC, so perhaps we can jaunt together.
