Maybe a reminder about the board rules is in order here: aljdiscussion.proboards.com/post/1/threadIt seems to be a pattern that every so often, we have a round of disruptive posts. Hopefully this round ends quickly and we can go back to the polite jovial banter while we await good news! Sorry Orchid, didn't mean to hijack your City of the Day posts! No worries! I think people are a bit on edge. I personally love the jokes on this board. Unfortunately we all aren't going to get the job:( We are lucky to even make it this far with 6,000 other candidates. As we slog through the process we need some humor to help get us through!

Anotherfed: Thanks for your commentary. Perhaps you might understand, that folks across the country may have no insight as to the locations and are relying on forums members to give them the right insight. Funny, or slams, don't help in this regard. I've lived on both the East and West Coasts and there are distinct differeincies at each location. Want to joke about each location; acknowledge up front with specifics and details!. Popular culture notwithstanding, zombies are not real. I don't think a disclaimer is really needed if the word "zombies" occurs anywhere in a description or commentary of a city. If any description of a city includes zombies, assume the post is intended to be humorous.

Let me chime in here and say I have been following the Board for awhile, Who. As a group, we try to be patient with people who join up and cannot be bothered to check prior posts for answers to the questions they ask - we know it can be overwhelming. We welcome the input of newcomers, but we are not going to necessarily change our way of doing business because some of you who are new to the Board don't like it.
After awhile, you get to know the personalities of the posters, their situations, and the inside jokes. As a result, you can tell whether most of these posts are serious or not. For example, I can usually tell when Gary is saying something seriously or tongue in cheek.
Some of the threads are more serious than others. Even the serious threads turn into one-liners at times. For many people who post, this forum is a stress reliever. I say lighten up and go with the flow. Take or leave what you read - form your own opinions about the members and Board activities. For example, I have no interest in the polls - except the one saying where people are going because that means I'm not - but I post because some of the members LOVE amassing and trying to interpret the data. It strikes me as way too speculative, but I sure don't put them down for doing what they need to do to make sense out of the process for them.
At this point, our lists are in, but I still enjoy reading about the cities. IMHO, there may be legitimate reasons to turn down on offer to a city, even after ranking it. Personal circumstances can change in a heartbeat. But anyone who turns down a city based on information in this thread about zombies needs to have his/her head examined. We all know that.

We all let off a little steam on the Board. Well, this is kind of a shock to me. I don't do this. Humor is something with which I am simultaneously unfamiliar and uncomfortable. I have to re-evaluate everything that has happened on this board over the past - however many years. Again - I'm totally taken aback. I actually use stubby pencils and Big Chief tablets for all my convoluted, and often quite incorrect, mathematical calculations. The internet is serious bidness. Start joking around and folks could get hurt - as has obviously happened here.

But anyone who turns down a city based on information in this thread about zombies needs to have his/her head examined. We all know that. And the redneck vampire city wasn't on this list, either. So we don't have to go into suggesting folks live in Ruston to avoid having to fight vampires when they get home.

Dubuque has hills. A major tourist attraction.
Dubuque i/dəˈbjuːk/ is a city in and the county seat of Dubuque County, Iowa, United States,[4] located along the Mississippi River. In 2013, its population was 58,253, making it the tenth-largest city in the state[5]
The city lies at the junction of three states: Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, a region locally known as the Tri-State Area. It serves as the main commercial, industrial, educational, and cultural center for the area. Geographically, it is part of the Driftless Area, a portion of North America that escaped all three phases of the Wisconsinian Glaciation.
One of the few large cities in Iowa with hills, it is a major tourist destination, attracted to the city's unique architecture and river location. Also, it is home to five institutions of higher education, making it a center for culture and learning.
While Dubuque has long been a center of manufacturing, the economy has recently had rapid growth and diversification in other areas. In 2005, the city led the state and the Midwest in job growth, ranking as the 22nd fastest-growing economy nationally.[6] Today, alongside industry, the city has large health care, education, tourism, publishing, and financial service sectors.

Despite having a seemingly unnecessary number of Us - Dubuque is also the home of Star Trek: Voyager actress, Kate Mulgrew, who played Captain Janeway. In an interesting twist, Star Trek's first female captain (at least for the lead ship of the series) is played by an actress from Iowa, while the fictional Captain Kirk, played by Canadian William Shatner, hailed from Iowa as well.

MPD, did Ace assault you? Was there also an offensive touching, no matter how slight? Is it time for me to get the Little Blue Card out of my wallet and remind Ace of his 31b's? After all, "the witness has rights." (I saw that in a Movie once.) This Forum is life or death, and the lives of millions are hanging on our every word.
Ace, please review the Army Manual on Intenet Humor and ensure your compliance. Next time, you will be shot by electrons at dawn.
Dubuque sounds lovely. I hear zombies can't climb hills.
I also find it amusing how many "thumbs ups" various messages get. It's a quite telling piece of analysis, worthy of even Gaidin the Great's quantitative analysis efforts.
Lastly, I almost never post anything on here that people can research by using the search function. If you aren't going to take the time to do your research, I'm not going to waste everybody else's time in making them read another inanely repetitive post. (Not doing your homework is a great way to see an SES with veins bulging out of his/her neck tear a colleague to shreds. You learn quickly that 'asked and answered' is never a good thing to hear from an overworked GC/DGC/AGC. The main difference between The Walking Dead and some of what I've seen is that, in The Walking Dead, you don't have to come back to the office in the morning.)
However, I will post humor. I expect folks will discern the difference. After all, I f you're really looking to determine a zombie's disability claim, you should be considering other lines of employment. Because, the zombies would eat you alive.

Ace did not commit a UCMJ violation, but I am sure we can find some statute and get him via the Assimilated Crimes Act, my favorite part of Article 134....

Maybe itsbecause you're new here and haven't had to spend 2 years going stir crazy with everybody else. Most of us have had to develop a sense of humor with each other and about this process to get through. At this point I can't tell if you are trying to be funny or if you really do think this way. I think you are very likely the only person on this board who thinks that Gary or I are being serious in our disparaging remarks about the above cities.

Well you and Gary because his humor gets me through some days.
