OPM is not going to allow SSA to "refresh" the register until they have interviewed all the names. Hence, this register will not expire until 2016 or later at the rate that certs and interviews have been set. OPM isn't going to let SSA to say there aren't enough unique names left to find candidates, if there are still about 650 to 700 unique names left on it without being looked at by SSA or other agencies yet. So, calm down, relax and wait until your chance occurs. Just because you were not hired on cert one doesn't mean you will never be hired. Just take a deep breath and relax as everything is going to be fine. Everything doesn't happen as quickly as many of you would like as everyone is in a hurry. As long as you are on the register you have a chance (not a guarantee). Not everyone will get hired and some will be disappointed in the end, but don't despair yet just after the first cert.

I totally concur with MPD's encouragement to remain calm. As the veteran of 3 registers and a handful of cert's, I would say ... think of it as a marathon (as has been echoed many times on various threads) and not a sprint. You are a high achiever. So are all of your contemporaries on the Board. Breathe in. Breathe out. Marathons require a lot of oxygen (it's an an aerobic thing). ht

HT is correct. I, too, was on the last register. Received the exact same "dear John" letter twice, once from Bob and once from someone else in his office. It doesn't mean you're off the register. OPM owns the register and has found you highly qualified. You will remain on the register until such a time as OPM cancels that register or you ask to be removed or suspended. SSA may, or may not, decide to exercise the "three-strike" rule in the future. In the past, others have been considered multiple times, and on occasion, SSA has exercised the hiring flexibility of the "three strike rule". There is no way to discern whether or not SSA will exercise the three-strike rule. Seems a bit early in the life of the register to be contemplating this. But that's just my opinion. My thought is that the ONLY way one can even begin to guess whether or not they have received a bona fide consideration is where they absolutely know someone with a lower score was selected for a city on the exact city they were on a certificate for. Example, if you were on the certificate for Morgantown....chances are you did not receive a bona fide consideration unless you were a 10-point CPS vet with a NOR over 85, even if you've received a rejection notice for that city. But I'm just guessing here. My point is that it is a complicated process, there are a lot of highly competitive qualified candidates to choose from, and it truly is a marathon...not a sprint. Like my momma used to say, "it doesn't help to borrow trouble". You'll never be able to figure out your consideration status unless OPM or SSA is willing to tell you. Not all candidates report on this board, not all reports on this board are accurate, be calm, find your center and breathe!

Or panic. Seriously, if you want to send a panicked email to OPM removing yourself from consideration I will be happy to help you draft it and get it out of the way today so you can relax with that weight lifted from your shoulders. There is no reason for you to worry about receiving anymore vaguely worded "Dear John/Jane" emails. It can all be over today and I can help. If there are too many of you for me to help by myself, then I am certain that some of my fellow Scobies will help draft the appropriate emails.
You can listen to wisdom from AM and others or you can listen to me and that nagging voice in your head that sounds like your high school gym teacher during the Presidential Physical Fitness Test... Its your choice (but I do type a nice email).

Outstanding! There is always something for everyone here. Love me a reference to a sucking chest wound, DD! Helps me to remind myself that this process indeed sucks.

Gaidin is very wise. Everyone who is worrying about this stuff needs to just give up and get off the register. You'll feel sooooo much better if you do. And you won't have to wait for Gaidin's help drafting your email because if too many of you hit him with requests, I too stand ready to come to assist.

This is not directed at anyone in particular, but I love these comments to "relax, calm down, take a breath, just breathe." I am of the opinion, and I think psychology will back me on this, that telling someone to "just relax" when they are freaking is not a good thing. I can say with certainty that "just breathe" is the wrong advice to calm the nerves of someone with a sucking chest wound. I am going to go against the grain and say to go ahead and get mad and freak out for a few minutes. Just enough to realize that it won't help in the long term. Then work the problem. Come up with plan B, C, etc. The planning process in itself will help you feel better. Just my opinion. True enough. Freak out briefly, (you don't have to do it here, but there is that option) Then look at options, and go on with your life while this plays out. Lots of us learned that a long time ago. It's a very good job, yes, but in the end, it's a job that thousands of happy, successful lawyers don't have.

Very helpful...if you refuse Gaidin's offer to draft an email removing you from the register, you might be helped right into chessparent's path!

I suppose the bottom line is that the email was written so badly that all we can conclude is that we weren't hired on the first cert. The only real confirmation of whether we are still under consideration for a position will come when the next cert is issued and we are or aren't on it.

I was away a couple of days and just saw this. No email - I was a late addition, only considered for one city.

Hmmmm. Now this provides room for WAGs and speculation .... some people who were on the 1st round of certs who did not get offers are getting emails, and some not. Has everyone who did not receive the "sorry" email check spam? I know that's silly but it seems too early for 3 strikes and yet, Funky's theory would suggest this may be the case (not too early). Nothing like a little more uncertainty to stir things up! I guess until someone WITH the email posts a response from the request for clarification we will just have to wait..... and wait....and....

I suppose if there were 158 names and 70 selected there should be about 90 rejection email letters that went out. It seems like only a handful of folks reported receiving the email.

Well, linky, not quite exciting to report getting the FOAD email, not like getting on cert or an offer. I don't expect folks to report that news in droves, particularly the lurkers.

As long as the emails don't say "See Details Tab" in them, there's no need to jump to conclusions.
