Hey, y'all. I have been thinking about future's post this a.m. about how this board is what the wannabes make of it (I will add with a generous helping from current ALJs and insiders - thanks!). So focusing on us wannabes, I remember lurking for a while before I ever posted. Today yellowrose posted that she (I assume?) lurked for a while and felt like she knew the board members before joining in. So I thought because we are also killing time, maybe we could have a thread to just say hi, hey, howdy or whatever to "pull of the band-aid" and get folks to post. I am sure you have read something along the way and wanted to chime in but weren't ready to jump right in. Well, I am asking you to jump in with both feet and say hey. Say as little or as much as you want, but then after that first post you will be ready to give opinions, make jokes, blow off steam, etc. Or if you have only posted a few times or been away, say hey again. Personally, I really enjoy "chatting" with folks on the board. I am interested in what they have to say (even if I don't always agree). I thought that I didn't need to post ever because I was sure it had all been said before. But everyone has a different perspective and brings something different to the board. Even if it is just cracking jokes, adding tidbits about the city of the day, etc. I really enjoy hearing from the other board members. I am truly rooting for them to get the SSA ALJ job and meet up with me in Falls Church (you get that, Bob? He's still ignoring me!). So this is the first thread I have started. Please don't let it be an epic fail. Say as little as you would like. Or as much as funky would (funky, come back! I hear the song.). Or do you have a burning question for one of our regulars? Just want to say hi? Miss my pink hair? Me too! Maybe I will dye it back this weekend. Or maybe fire-engine red? Tell the sandi avatar to keep his clothes on (one of my personal favorite jokes. Sorry, sandi!)? "Cheesy," what's that about? MPD, can you share another MP pic? :') You get the idea. (But please abide by forum rules. See intro page.) Anyway, please consider this your personal invitation from me (and I hope they will forgive me for being presumptuous, but from all the regulars) to join the conversation. Heart, Miss

To prevent an epic fail, I will be the first to accept your invitation. I have to say that my avatar was inspired by Missundaztood's pink hair, and by OK1956's rose colored glasses. I don't have purple hair in real life.... Thanks, Mizz, for yet another inspired idea.

Thanks, 'fed. I only have crazy colored hair in real life when I don't have oral arguments scheduled for a while and usually it is only underneath so you only see it if my hair is up. Plus I don't really see clients much - the beauty of a criminal defense appeals practice! I really love colors that are on the military no-no list! After complying while in uniform, I love being a bit of a rebel as a vet.

Had to login just to say hello and let you know the comments are appreciated. Been busy with job and moving kids to college, so just reading mostly to keep up to date. Really curious to see which cities are in play next go around.
Hmmm... maybe I should add some purple leaves to my trees?

With a criminal defense appeals practice you must be accustomed to short deadlines; rules requiring you to do things without apparent necessity except they are required by the rules; and losing most of the time. In other words, you come prepared for both this process and the job.

In other words, you come prepared for both this process and the job. And lots of craziness! I think the appeals part is why I "wordsmith" so much. I also visit the board while writing and mentally searching for that perfectly precise word so my subconscious can do the work, which is pretty often. Enough about me! Although this is cheaper than therapy...

I am wearing purple because it is Mrs. G's favorite color. Miss I think you should change the hair color to whatever makes you happy. Although I totally get the keep it "straight edge" for court thing. Good idea about the thread. I encourage all the lurkers to just step out and say hi.

I lurked on the board for a really long time before posting. Not only has the information I found here been immensely helpful but the board is also one of the last bastions of cordiality in a sea of interwebz flame wars. It is a testament to the professionalism of the boards members. Even the near dust-ups between Funky and Tigerlaw can't touch the mayhem on most other boards.

Yes, and I have realized from posting that what may sometimes seem like snarky comments, if made by "strangers" really aren't so bad as they seem because there could be a good friendship or mutual respect behind the scenes in PMs.

Great idea, Mizz! I join in the call for lurkers to come out, come out, wherever you are...
I really hope we all make a second cert, get placed, and meet up in FC for training this January. The personalities of everyone shine through on this board, and the common thread among all these diverse personalities is how helpful, friendly and interesting everyone is. Meeting and becoming friends with you guys IRL would be a hoot.
BTW, in re: the hair color discussion (women!), I'm curious: how much does your avatar really look like you? There is one person on this board who knows who I am (we met at testing) and this person recognized me in part from my avatar! I thought that was pretty interesting, and now I'm very curious about others' avatars.

I made my avi as generic looking as I could. I do have an annoying smirk though.

The avatar choices drop 30 pounds and 30 years on mine. I love it. Beyond that it is fairly close.

We will recognize Gary by the WC Fields/Groucho Marx cigar hanging out of his mouth.

No, I don't look like multiple pairs of yellow shoes. Nor do I own any yellow shoes. Perhaps I need to invest in a pair:)

The rose colored glasses (nice catch Anotherfed) are more a reflection on my outlook (or attempted outlook) for the future in this process - I don't wear them in real life. haha. Also, they didn't really have choices that look much like my real hair - and anyone who meets me at FC in the future (fingers crossed) will immediately see what I mean LOL
