I did not post this as a test of the board and have no reason to believe there was an information leak designed to test the board. Before our office got new judges, we routinely sent cases to the Chicago NHC. Our HOD (who is barely aware of the existence ov the board) informed of us of the closing at a regular staff meeting - she may have been misinformed, but it was part of a presentation directly related to our shifting workload, not just a general discussion about what's going on in the agency - we are not geographically close to Chicago and are not even in the same region so there would be no reason to for her to share information unless it affected our operations. She did not say this is something she had heard, she said it would be happening. There's a big difference in my book. Given the context within which the information was given, I considered it reliable. I have to say that as a staff we are not given a lot of information about what's up, but the information we get is usually accurate. It could be a rumor, and as someone who eventually would like to get back to Chicago, I hope it is. I don't think it is helpful to post rumors (at least without identifying them as such) but it seems to me that, in the past, we have found information that comes through HODs to be reliable. If I have upset anyone unnecessarily, mea culpa. I don't think you upset anyone. Also, the rumors are appreciated and taken for what they are worth - rumor. Only time will tell if your HOD was correct or not.

Thanks Cubbie. Rest assured that if I share something I believe to be a rumor on this Board, I will identify it as such. I am surprised, and candidly a little upset, at the suggestion that I shared this information as a test of the Board or that management dropped this morsel in a staff meeting for the purpose of playing with the members of the Board. That just seems pretty far out there to me.

I took it to mean that just like ANY nugget of news we all take it and run with it. And we did just like normal. It's all good. You never know and this "closing" had a plausible reason. I bet everyone knows it was not an intentional rumor just for the sake of a test. I am quite sure the comment about that was just to lighten things up, at least I took it that way. No worries.

I was just joking/observing about how hungry we all are for information -any information - any how quickly we all devour and analyze every little crumb. It it is absolutely a blessing to have insiders like you who are willing to convey the news they hear. It's also an amazing blessing that we get all this information so quickly - essentially as it happens! Ok so this bit didn't pan out, but it WAS important info & I did not mean to imply anything about you or the information itself. Mamaru, you are a trusted, respected, & valuable member of our community ( this rag-tag band of fellow travelers). Please forgive me if my post came across as tone-deaf or a criticism of you - it wasn't intended that way at all. It was a feeble attempt to keep things light.

Thanks for the clarification Lucky. I appreciate it.
I will continue to post anything I hear that seems reliable. I just don't want to get the reputation for posting stuff to stir up the pot. I don't think it's productive to do that.

I don't think it's productive to do that. Far from it! You had a reliable source, and we know that you were mindful and definitely wanting to be helpful in relaying what at the time was good information. - like I said, we all consider you to be a valuable, trusted fellow traveler. Many of us have worked for the government, and we totally understand the situation of getting a piece of information about plans that everyone knows is absolutely reliable and then a couple days later, the powers that be change horses again, and suddenly everything's different or completely off. I'm just always amazed/tickled about how fast everyone (me included) jumps on every little scrap of info we get - especially while we're waiting for news of the next round of certs. I think at times that our collective response/analysis time could make NORAD blush. It wasn't the info or you that I was joking about, it was the scramble-time from all of us in the peanut gallery. Heck, within a few hours we knew where all the nearby SSA offices were, whether they shared a building, and how many ALJ's that NHC has. I'm pretty sure all of us started calculating what a closure like that would do to the transfer list and our individual GALs. I'll bet Gaidin contemplated a table or a graph of some kind. SeaLaw already had started a trace of each of the transfers going on. The info WAS valuable.

Just a bit of speculation, but I have heard of pilots being started up where a hearing office's staff is to go almost completely virtual with the exception of ALJs and I presume management. I believe franklin TN is going to be one of those pilots. It's conceivable that pilot would include an NHC. It's also conceivable that that kind of news, once it goes through the game of telephone, comes out in a different region as the Chicago NHC is closing. Just my Monday afternoon guessing.

Whyohwhy, I like the theory, but question the plan. Franklin has a blind Judge. Why would you run a virtual pilot in an office with a blind Judge? Destined to failure or at least frustration for said Judge...
