Interesting info from a forum member:"Please post this anonymously. I might be getting pranked but I have spoken with Bob before and it sounded like him. I interviewed with last cert and received the official offer and accepted on 9/29/2014. January 25 start date and training 3 weeks later in mid-February in Falls Church. I was on the last cert and interviewed in the summer. It appears they started over at the top scorers on the last cert for the new hiring. This confirms hiring for January and should require a new certificate immediately unless they are doing a very small hire from the folks who were interviewed on the last cert and were not hired for either fall class." * * * Nothing additional. So please don't ask me any follow up question. Good luck to everyone.

IF THIS IS TRUE:
They could be hiring from the last set of certs. Our reports were the certs were for 90 positions and they hired only 70 in the first two classes, leaving a possible 20.
Or they could have got lists of eligibles back for a second set of certs and hired someone for a position where they considered a top three all of whom were on the first set of certs. If that's the case, the second set of certs may be so small as not to require additional candidates who have not been interviewed yet or we may see emails on the second certs very soon.
They could not hire first and request certs afterward. They have to hire off a list of eligibles for a specific location.
I'd like to see some confirmation of this though before I get too excited about it.

So we do not know if this hire was off the first cert or not. Maybe after all the recent transfers slots opened up enough for a class off the first set of certs? I wonder what city this poster accepted? Maybe the 2nd certs are out and they are just filling high scorers they already interviewed before figuring out the shuffle and setting up additional interviews? Hard to say without knowing cities.

And congrats to the new Jan 2015 starting ALJs!

It is possible that they stopped hiring for the second class because they were running out of time due to the unexpected length of time offers/acceptances were taking and they are picking up the additional ALJs they wanted to hire off the first set of certs to be all or part of a third class starting work in January 2015.

Man, what a great surprise for that person if true. If I received that call, Bob would've been asked "who the f#$% is this, really" and told "this isn't funny" 8.2 times before I hung up on him.

The starting date given to ALJD doesn't work. January 25, 2015, is a Sunday, though it is at the start of a pay period.

WISTFD you and me both. Congrats to you anonymous! If possible could you perhaps let us know where you're going?
I would guess that this is them filling the 20 from the first cert and not a new cert. Whether it's because of transfers or just the timing of the classes from cert 1 I don't have a clue.
So will they push cert 2 to get a bigger January class? Maybe a smaller group of certs? Instead of doing all 130 positions (110?) do 30-40? Sure that means maybe they don't get to see as deep as they would otherwise but logistically it makes things lots easier. Then roll the remaining positions out over the course of the 2nd quarter.

I stand (or more accurately sit) corrected. So far anyway I don't think there's anything to corroborate or impeach the anonymous report.

What's strange to me about this news is the reference to getting pranked. If a second cert was pulled, I would imagine one of our members would post. If true, maybe it's a hire from the first cert. Very strange without any corroboration.

And what a great amount of time to prepare! Almost 3 months!!!! That is amazing. That happened once before, in 2011 or so. It is pretty rare! Sounds like certs live longer than we thought they did, if this account is true. I would have thought the certs would have been sent back to OPM long ago.

Well, if we knew what city was in play on this one, it might give a better clue. IF the city was a "new" one, not on the first set of certs, then they are working the new certificates putting people in place who were already interviewed and have the highest scores before emailing folks who need interviews, or who were on the 1st set and may have a lower score but who would still be getting notice they are on this next set of certificates due to overlapping cities. So I am not counting out that this is the beginning of the next certificate process. I think at this point, it could go either way. Either way, we at least know the next start date and that some very lucky folks will be filling a class in February!

However, recalling DLOTS and other past reports that may have been more innocently inaccurate, I am still looking for corroboration of the report.

Is there anybody else out there from the first cert who has been notified of a January start date? Perhaps a post from someone else would eliminate the confusion.

LAST HIRE FROM FIRST CERT
I was on the first cert, One city. This was a city that had hired one person. I got a call from Bob Gelhken on 10/2- he offered and I have accepted the ALJ position. Yea! Start date 1/26/15. Class starts 2/16. I am not DSLOTS
I asked Mr. Gelhken whether I was the only hire at this time. He said no, there "might be a couple of others." He said that he would be out of the office until 10/23 on leave, I think he said. Not sure what it all means, but I am happy to be one of the last hires from the first cert.
Meanwhile, note that I am currently in the mountains in a remote area. My access to the internet is limited. So please do not get upset if I am not able to answer any questions regularrly. I hope others get the good word soon.

Congrats dude abides!
Burning questions:
1. Has a second cert actually been requested? 2. What is the size of the January class? 3. Will the January class include any second certers?

It sounds like they are hiring a few more from the first certs, based on what dude reported Bob told him. If that's true, they will likely finish the January starters from a second set of certs. I would be interested to know how big the second set of certs will be and, of course, the cities that will be included.
