I hear there is a bounty of 1,000,000 Board points to the first ALJ to conduct a hearing entirely in Klingon. Viewscreen off. Lucky for me I am fluent.

See I can actually imagine the case now. Applicant's disability is mental and one of the ways his illness presents is the inability to communicate except in Klingon.

Judge James T. Kirk would know what to do, even if the hearing reporter is frantically saying, "I canna get the recorder tae werrrk, Sir. She just canna take it. She's goin' tae implode!"

You guys do realize that this disqualifies all ALJ candidates except the, ah, eccentric folks who go in costume to those conventions.

Not so, I like to wear costumes to the office also.

I thought we would be issued special Federation robes for the occasional Klingon or Romulan claimant?

Please pardon my ignorance ... will the successive "start dates" be the result of a series of new certs or will they proceed from the second cert in progress ?? Put another way is a new cert required for each class ?

Put another way is a new cert required for each class ? It shouldn't. The first hires were made in two classes with 44ish starting in August and 26ish starting in September.

I am digging the hat - didn't see that on the Harbro website. Anybody got the SKU# so I can order this for Gary? Ibnlurkin - Yes, I think the second cert that was pulled this November will result in multiple hirings/start dates for folks. Some will start in January, some folks will start in February. Perhaps more in March, but only time and some well-placed intel will tell!

Thanks for the learned insight and useless speculation. Both equally appreciated.

This may have already been posted from Chief Judge Bice:
"Here are some updates that may be of interest to you.
We are in the midst of hiring a class of 20-30 new ALJs with an EOD of Jan. 25. We will continue ALJ hiring throughout the fiscal year with the hope of bringing on a total of 200-250 ALJs in FY15, budget permitting.
One of the issues presented by this hiring effort is hearing room capacity. We are exploring various options, including the possibility of Judge Only Video (JOV) rooms. A JOV could be a DVU in an unused decision writer office retrofitted appropriately – any judge in the office could use this JOV for a video hearing – freeing up hearing room capacity for an increased ALJ corp.
As always, thanks for your dedication and hard work. I welcome your questions and/or comments.
Debbie"

Thanks Bart!
I have a slightly off-topic outsider question: Is Chief Judge Bice's name pronounced to rhyme with ice or is it pronounced Beeese?
(And for you jokesters, yes I know, it's pronounced "Debbie")

Thank you! I'm not in this round (yay Trifectas!) but I wouldn't want to sound uninformed after all this time to do my homework.
