I received a call yesterday scheduling my interview. No follow up email. I received a call this morning to schedule my interview. I said it had been scheduled and the caller confirmed time and date and said she would send a confirmation email with travel information. When it arrived, the only travel information was a sheet with driving directions to skyline. My HOD told me to email them and ask for a travel packet.
Insiders, are you getting travel packets?

So if you're an insider, it appears that you are expected to be able to make your own plans without any guidance. Hopefully everyone remembers how to set up travel via SATO (if it's still being used) from way back when you went to training!
I would think most office administrative assistants will be able to help refresh our memories.

Melanie just told me that because they are fast-tracking there will be no packets for insiders. Not time. She said to make my own travel arrangements, keep track, and I will be reimbursed. She said we can use our own credit cards or federal cards, but to consider using our own if we want to keep the miles. I'm sure our office assistant will be able to help with the paperwork.
The saga continues, my HOD said - hey wait a minute, I think we should help with this and took the initiative to do so. While we were working out details I received still another email from FC with a different attachment providing more specific instructions for booking travel, plus names of nearby hotels. This applies to everyone. For SSA employees, it does provide more direction. I am taking the safe approach and following those instructions. If the only instructions you got were driving instructions to the building, which is all I got initially, I suggest you contact them and ask for the additional information sheet.

What's worse is you are an insider Sratty, I am an outsider (sort of having practiced SSA law for 30 years) and if you haven't heard anything yet, I can only imagine how long it will be for me to hear anything from SSA. LOL!

LOL! When I called about the travel confusion, Melanie told me that the people scheduling the interviews have no idea if the person is an insider or an outsider because the paperwork has not been submitted. Be at ease - insiders are not being contacted first.

OK, for us non-fed employees, I understand the FC per diem rate is $177 max for hotels and $71 for meals and incidental expenses.
Does SSA pay the full $177 and $71, or only the actual out-of-pocket costs you incurred and verified by receipts?
So, if it takes me 1 day to get to FC, I might get MIE rate and hotel and the MIE rate on the following day on the trip back home?
The answer could have a bearing on where I stay during my interview and the places for meals, taxi, etc.
How long does it take to get reimbursed?

If you have an interview next week, have you received your travel authorization number yet?

Orchid,
I have an interview this Saturday but no travel authorization yet. They were hoping to get that out last Friday, but I guess they were even busier than they thought they would be. I am sure it will come today or tomorrow.
