No. No one ever accused me of being a horse, or any part of a horse, so I can't say I'd see their point of view.
Other animals however, yes. I think I've been accused of being a burro (spell check would change the other animal's name) and I have perhaps contemplated their perspective while performing some crappy job as a very junior officer.

A burro under the saddle--now that would be something to see.

Sorry, catching up on some old posts. A cowboy, no joke, once corrected me and told me that it is a "burr UNDER my saddle." Uh, okay... I will try to keep all burrs away from my saddle. I was told if the burr was under your saddle, you wouldn't feel it - guess size really does matter... I try to keep all burrs away from my saddle as well - under, on, in, etc! LOL. You might not personally feel the burr but I am sure your mount would, which could lead to a very interesting ride indeed.

Burrito....still laughing. Probably not as strange as what the people at the airport thought of me as I ate half a dozen donuts in about 15 seconds at 4:30 in the afternoon. I keep waiting to see a vine video that someone secretly took of me go viral. Stupid terminal Dunkin Donuts.

The only thing that would be funnier would be Raymond Burr under your saddle!
He would have made a great ALJ, don't you think?

By the way, evidently the contractor for SSA has had to pull people off other jobs to finish the ALJ references by tomorrow. This is based upon what was stated to one of my references who wondered why it took so long to get the call to act as a reference.

My reference thought it strange when the person asked him "what experience does he have in using a gun?" LOL! No, just kidding, actually the person making the call stated she usually worked on questions for Homeland Security and the Border Patrol. She stated that the questions for SSA were so simple and could be quickly covered. Remind me not to apply for Homeland Security or the Border Patrol.

Seems like double-dipping on vet's points. Are their interviews trial by combat? Sign me up!

Got an email from a former supervisor who told me he spent 25 minutes on the phone today with the contractor making me sound fabulous. That's the only reference I've heard back from so far.

I got my college alum magazine and, among the "class notes" of people who have FABULOUS accomplishments, was a note that Jane Doe, class of '73, received her concealed carry permit in Cook County. I laughed so hard I cried.

OMG - Page 3 of this thread is by far the best page of one liners, wisecracks and general ridiculousness on this board I've seen in a long time - thanks for the Friday Funnies. I've been very busy this week with a case, so I needed the laughs!!

I think my biggest fear for two years has just come to fruition. I have exactly one job on my work history. Been here decades. Love the work. Boss is elderly, won't be around for ever, but she relies on me for a lot, both personally and professionally. I could not think of a valid way to say that she could not be contacted. She was not listed as a reference, but as my supervisor, which she is. She is in a job where no one even dares suggest she could be wrong on any subject. I think, but don't know for sure, that she may have just ended my journey. She called me after she spoke to the interviewer. She set the interviewer straight that no one could handle multiple hundreds of cases. She then told me what a bad job the ALJ gig is, and how devastating it would be to my family and children to move, amongst other gems. I thought it was a coin-flip saying that she could be contacted, and I guess the wrong side of the coin turned up. All speculation on my part, but it doesn't feel good. I wish the decision makers were making the reference calls. I'm not sure my bosses agenda will come through on a checklist. But I knew the process going in, knew that contractors make the calls, and knew it was a risk. Just venting.
I had nine wonderful, properly prepped references. I hope they can carry the day, but the board seems to suggest that one bad ref can deep-six the application. I guess I'll find out. Or maybe it doesn't matter because I would not have been hired anyway.

The references really stress me out too. We can't control what other people say. Unfortunately.
