I wish the holiday could be stress free for me. But I work in a small firm (there are just two of us) and a January offer would leave my employer with little time to find a replacement, should I be offered the Golden Ticket. With a busy litigation schedule, two or three weeks is just not enough time to hire someone and get them up to speed on my cases. My practice is in multiple jurisdictions and while some courts would likely be accommodating with deadlines, others would not. I was hoping to avoid the issue with December offers. Well, I can't say that I am really surprised that the process will take longer than expected. Odds are that you'll have more than a month to report to your new duty station. They'll put the time crunch on insiders to the extent possible and then on other federal employees, which is only fair. So let's hope you hear in early January with a start date in late February or March.

That's nice. So we can all have a nice, stress-free holiday without worrying about will-I-or-won't-I get an offer, wrapping up practices, relocating, etc. How thoughtful... I know I am excited to have another round of family dinners where I am asked "Hows that judge thing going?" And when you say its all up in the air they look at you with pity because they assume you are lying to cover up that you know you didn't get the job.

News from a highly placed source at ODAR. Offers are between 6 to 8 weeks away. Early January is very likely for offers. Remember they could just do a small January class and then extend offers for a later training. That is all. Not what a lot of us wanted to hear, but it is what it is - because of holiday "alignment" this year - Thanksgiving is 1 week from tomorrow, Christimas is 5 weeks (exactly) from tomorrow, New Year's is 6 weeks from tomorrow and Elvis' birthday is 7 weeks from tomorrow. So the 6 weeks is more like 6 1/2 (but I'm quibbling) - and would correspond to January 5th - the Monday after January 1st. Yeah - certainly starting to look like a small class for January 26/February 16 - even if it only takes tham a week to do ~25 offers, starting on January 5th, the later ones will only have 2 weeks to report. It will function like the "second half" of the second class of 2014 - particularly if there are many first certers among those selected. I guess we'll know soon enough - there are only 6 weeks left in 2014...

Maybe this could be an off-season gig for Punxsutawney Phil? Punxsutawney, btw, is NOT on this cert.

My kitties are my "Baker Street Irregulars". They try to keep me on top of everything and it is a monumental task for 7 kitties that all think they are your favorite and in charge of everything...

Ace are you like Gary Busey? Do you refuse to work on Elvis' Birthday? I usually make that statement at the beginning of a new job, but typically balk at actually taking vacation time/leave for that day. But, I always observe the passing. After all, there's only 1 King of Rock and Roll.

My WAG is that the second cert process has taken slightly longer than ODAR initially anticipated, and that insiders may well be contacted first in order to assemble the first class because they may require less transition time. But the agency appears to be learning the ropes under the "new" system fast, and IMHO a flurry of offers will go out for the second class, followed closely by another cert. "Veterans" from the first two certs, along with new "Third Certers" will convene in Falls Church in the early Spring to do some learnin'. Of course, I.could.be.mistaken;) In the meantime, crickets and situational beverages for the holidays. Baglady -- we need you! Who else can help us get through the holidays (aka "waiting for an offer" days) with seasonally appropriate situational beverages?
