I guess the background checks have begun. I received a hit on my linkedin account from "SSA ODAR Investigator at KeyPoint Government Solutions" today.

Background vs. reference checks.I'm a little confused now.
From what I heard somewhere, the background check doesn't happen until after being hired and reporting to the new location.
Reference checks have begun on the 2d certers.
It may be a matter of semantics, but let's be clear. Are we talking about contacting references and past employers pre-hiring? Or, checks made afteer being hired?

Or, checks made afteer being hired? Yes, reference checks are underway. But this has nothing to do with references. This is part of a background check. Prior to receiving offers, there are checks that are made like credit checks and other types of checks. This is not the full background investigation that can take considerable time and can be completed after hiring. My background investigation took over a year to complete when I started with ODAR in 2007. If you look back at prior threads from the last hire of 71, they reported similar types of checks as well as credit report checks prior to offers.

My linked in profile was also visited today by ODAR investigators. But I'm a little confused by the endorsement he left...
(just joking, don't get paranoid)

When did you submit your references, etc.? I had my refs ready and submitted them the same day we received the cert email.

I meant what date? I was just curious because I've had my interview but no reference contacts yet.

I meant what date? I was just curious because I've had my interview but no reference contacts yet. I received the cert email with all the forms Nov. 3rd. Since I was quick on the draw to return forms, I am not surprised about the reference checks being completed. On the other hand I have not interviewed yet. Some do not even have an interview date yet. It will all be done before they can make offers.

I sent mine back the Thursday (Nov 7) before they were due. Reference checks started the next week, on Nov 11.

So, we have two federal employees having their background checks so far, but no non-federal employees reporting the same.

My paperwork went in on Friday November 8 but no interview scheduled yet and none of my references have reported contact from anyone.

I submitted my paperwork on the 6th November. So far, I've heard back from three past/present supervisors and 7 of my 9 references, who were all contacted, spread out over the span of about a week's time. So that's reference checks. But, in terms of background checks, I'm not aware of anything having happened yet. My exceedingly modest LinkedIn profile has only been viewed once since I returned my paperwork, and that by someone who was most definitely not an investigator.
In terms of the credit check, will we be able to tell from our various credit monitoring agencies if this has in fact taken place? I know I get an e-mail notification if a "hard" credit check is made (i.e. if I've applied for a new line of credit, which I haven't had call to do in years), but what about for a "soft" credit check, as I imagine the investigators hired by ODAR would do?
Also, one final query... how much weight do our references' statements have in the final decision as to whether or not we get offers? How much info do the investigators provide back to Bob's team? Just a general thumbs up/thumbs down, or a detailed report submitted in a clear plastic binder, with pull quotes appropriately set off in red or (hopefully) green ink?

As for the credit checks, many of the last 71 who were hired reported credit checks. I guess it depends on what type of monitoring you have set up since as you point out, it isn't a hard inquiry. I will have to let someone else answer the weight of the reference statements since there hasn't been any way to know that information that I know of.... some folks have guessed they had a reference gig them and that is why they did not get an offer.

This is my first time posting.
My documents were submitted on time and I have had my interview in Falls Church. My references have not been checked. I don't have much of a social media presence so I don't know if anyone's been looking for me there.
I hope this information is helpful.
