This is my first time posting. My documents were submitted on time and I have had my interview in Falls Church. My references have not been checked. I don't have much of a social media presence so I don't know if anyone's been looking for me there. I hope this information is helpful. Welcome! Glad to have your input and it is always helpful! Good luck to you!

lizdarcy:
Be patient. Eventually they will get around to checking your references.
Lots of folks to check and if the reference was unavailable, then a call back may be set later. I know only a few of my references have reported being contacted. So, some may have been unavailable at the initial call and will have to reschedule the interview.
BTW, SSA contracts out for the reference checks. Check our some of the earlier threads about references and the list of questions used in the past.

I am confused about the background and credit check. Is it just your score or how much you owe? Also, do we have to wait until all references and prior employers are called? Some of mine are on vacation on and off the rest of the year. Thanks for your insight.

Some of mine are on vacation on and off the rest of the year. Thanks for your insight. Sorry I don't have the answer. Because of the information revealed in the process, I suspect SSA wants to make sure that unauthorized details are not revealed. Like any federal position, if you owe a lot of $$$, you may be an effort to provide info in return for info. Just like the security checks in the military. Like any sensitive position, SSA wants make sure your decisions are not tainted by other factors. If you have the normal? amount of debt and income; I guess this would not be a problem. Lots of debt and low income; who knows?

What I meant, was your decisions should not be factored by possible debt considerations. Not that anyone selected would be under such pressures.
But, if your were ODAR, wouldn't you be one percent sure that your ALJs had no influences riding on their outcomes? BTW, I'm not suggesting that any candidates fall into this situation. But, ODAR wants fair and honest rulings.

I submitted my paperwork on Nov 6. My references were being called by Nov 8 (a Saturday). By the end of the next wk I had heard from all my former sups, and 7/9 references, that they had spoken to the contractor. The contractor viewed my Linked In profile a couple weeks ago. I am a fed. Hope that is helpful.

Fox, thanks for posting this. Have you had your interview yet, or are you one of the 14 folks waiting to be called to schedule the interview?

I had my paperwork in on Nov. 4th, 8 out of 9 reference checks have reported in and my Linkedin account was viewed by an "investigator" last week and I am an outsider...

My references have not been called yet, but I did get notice yesterday that SSA/ODAR had pulled my credit report. So I notified my references (who have been patiently waiting for 'the call') that maybe they will now be contacted -- which may still be next week given the holiday this week.

First report of credit report hits!

Credit report pulled, state driving record checked, and some references called.

All but 2 references have checked in and reported talking to investigators. LinkedIn profile checked. I don't know about my credit report or driving record (uh oh, is a lead foot a disqualifier?).

I have only had one reference give responses to questions so far and no background or license check as of yet. So, there is a lot of work to do yet for me and others on the Board.

From earlier reports on the Board, I dont think the background checks have to be completed before offers can be extended. I can't remember where I read it, but there was an urban legend of a judge being pulled out of training because of a failed background check.

That's a different and far more extensive background check. This is just a cursory check for any obvious flags. Once you're hired, you'll submit to a public trust clearance check, I believe, which has led to the revocation of jobs in the past. agilitymom had a post about it a while ago, if I'm not mistaken.

Exactly. My ODAR background check did not complete until about a year into my job in 2007. In fact, I didn't see the personal report until about 3 years later! LOL! Yep, this is just a big red flag check.
