During the first round of certs, we had Bag Lady entertaining us with drinks of the day as the Board cumulatively waited on announcements of Golden Ticket invitations to the Big Dance (is that enough mixed metaphors??).
So while we wait once again, I thought we could start a holiday version of the Drink of the Day. I'm not a master mixologist like Bag Lady, so everyone is going to have to chip in, but I will start us out:
Mexican/Spanish Hot Cocoa -
Shave or grate 1/2 to 1 oz of Mexican/Spanish bittersweet chocolate
Heat 1 cup of milk or water to just under boiling
Whisk chocolate and water/milk until smooth. Enjoy.

Darn! I KNEW I forgot something!! BagLady would be horrified!
Add the liqueur of your choice (or tequila - or situational bourbon will always do)!
NOW enjoy!

I like to add a float of Myers Dark Rum to my eggnog. Freshly grated nutmeg is optional. Nutmeg poisoning

I've always wondered about the name Eggnog -
Wikipedia says: "Eggnog, or egg nog . . ., is a sweetened dairy-based beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, and whipped eggs (which gives it a frothy texture). Spirits such as brandy, rum or bourbon are often added. The finished serving is often garnished with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon or nutmeg.
It was also known as the egg milk punch."
Eeeewwww! I don't think I'd be as happy to drink "Egg Milk Punch!"

I will be honest the "real" stuff is not to my liking. Mrs. G's grandma made it for me one Christmas and it was all I could do finish a glass. The egg froth is a real thing and it's gross.

I make a mean eggnog but don't froth the eggs that much and use real whipped cream. :-)

Re: Mexican hot chocolate - I highly recommend the Abuela brand of chocolate and the hot chocolate mixer from Crate & Barrel. Not that I object to adding special "flavors" to Mexican hot chocolate, but in Lucky's defense it is the cinnamon that makes it "Mexican," not the booze!

You Mexican your hot chocolate your way, and I'll Mexican mine my way. Spoil sport.

Here's a good one for today.
Spiced Cider
1 lg orange 4 quarts apple cider 1/4 c. packed golden brown sugar 2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice 15 whole cloves 10 whole all spice 8 whole green cardamom pods, crushed 5 cinnamon sticks, each broken in half
Mix orange peel and all other ingredients in large pot. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until mixture is reduced to about 8 cups, about 40 minutes.
Cool slightly, ladle into cups and give to the kids. Tell kids you are wrapping presents and send them outside or into another room to play.
Open a bottle of wine and settle in to binge-watch adult drama of choice (I recommend Game of Thrones). Popcorn optional.

You forgot the copious quantities of bourbon. Nothing gets the kids out of your hair quite so well as getting them lickered up.
