As noted in other threads, there have been many retirements announced in the past 2 days. Yesterday, I counted 5 and today 3. And those are just the ones who are sending out blanket "sign my guestbook" emails. No doubt there are many others since the end of the year is approaching. This is good news to all of us wannabes!
I just want to put this in a separate thread to give those of us still waiting a little hope as we cheer on those who are getting picked up. We still have another 230 or so spots to fill according to the 250 goal, with 20 or so going into the January 26th hire (as far as we know at this point). As I have said from the beginning, this is a very good time to be on the register!
Good luck to everyone! Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the morale boost Sr. I knew getting into the 20 or so hires this time around was a big long shot but it still stings every time one of my small little collection of cities gets a vote. I am glad for all the folks getting hired but still feels like I'm "losing". So with that in mind I will try to perk up and hope maybe there is a last minute call tomorrow about Pennsauken. Time for a situational beverage and some tunes.

I hear ya. When my cities had votes, I felt the same deflated sensation. But I have to remind myself, this aggressive hiring is JUST getting started and we have many more opportunities just around the corner!

As we have seen for some of the cities, just because a city has an offer/acceptance doesn't mean it is off the table -- there could be multiple hires. Keep your chin up!

I anticipate there will be substantially more retirements in the coming weeks. The best date to retire for FERS is 12/31/14 (for most employees) and 1/3/15 for CSRS employees. The older judges will be tired of changes instituted by the agency and will decide it is time to move on and enjoy life. I think there will be more retirements this year than in the past, thus creating more available positions. The agency, however, won't announce availability for these locations until the retiring judge is "officially" retired. Pix.

That's good to know Pixie.
It is only prudent on SSA's part to hold off until a retirement is official. The district Judge I worked for was scheduled to retire on 11/30 a couple of years ago. Fairly close to that date, the Judge changed his mind and wound up retiring 12/31 of that year. So a Judge isn't retired until he/she's retired.

Also keep in mind that some of the retirements being announced publicly have been known to the agency for much longer.

Another retirement announced today for Feb 27, 2015 out of the Denver office. Maybe this will be filled with a transfer soon, which will open a newbie slot somewhere else for one of us.

Including the announcement today of the retirement of the ALJ in Denver, that makes 5 of 17 retirees whose surname begins with "S". That's statistically significant, and cannot be a coincidence. What is going on with the "S" judges, do you think? Fortunately for my long-term job prospects once I assume the job next month, there is no "S" in "Loopstok".

I know it will be filled by a transfer as I moved up to # 2 on my list b/c of the working of the transfer list to Denver, SLC, Reno, Boise and other cities. So it's a great time to be on the transfer list as it WILL get slow after another 100 or so judges, at least for a while.
