I thought this was important enough to have it's own thread: Remember when I posted this? aljdiscussion.proboards.com/post/69202/threadAbout "KeyPoint" .... well.... we got this email just a few minutes ago. So be careful and check your credit reports & be on the lookout for fraud, just like you would if you had the Home Depot, Target, or other such security breach. NOTE TO ALL SSA EMPLOYEES SSA recently received notification of a possible security breach with the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) contractor, KeyPoint Government Services. KeyPoint Government Services performs background investigations on Federal Government employees. OPM will be issuing notifications to 48,439 individuals across the Federal Government that their personally identifiable information (PII) may have been exposed as the result of a network breach at KeyPoint Government Solutions. To date, we confirmed that a total of 20 SSA employees were affected by the KeyPoint data breach. The Office of Human Resources will contact affected employees to provide them with relevant information.

Is Keypoint the contractor handling background checks for SSA? I don't work for SSA and just saw this item in the news. Since Keypoint does handle background checks for OPM, I would expect that everyone on the current register might be at risk. I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say that everyone on the register is at risk. Those individuals who are on the register but have not made a cert can rest easy on this one because they have not yet had a background check. If you go back to the prior thread, at least one second certer discovered Keypoint had tapped his Linkedin account so we know they were working on ALJ background checks for this group of candidates. It's a wait and see situation for us second certers.

It's a wait and see situation for us second certers. I was the one who pointed out that it was KeyPoint who checked my LinkedIn account. It specifically said KeyPoint. I posted this because I think that anyone who is on the 2nd cert list may be at risk. The email said anyone at risk would be contacted and it involved about 20 people. At the point that this email came to us at work, we were at 20 acceptances. That may be a coincidence, but I would be checking the ole credit report and keeping tabs just to make sure nothing goes wrong.

What we don't know is if KeyPoint was/is the only contractor doing second cert checks or if they also did first cert checks. If so, the number is probably going to turn out to be much larger than 20. Stay tuned.
