Forwarding this quote from the AALJ newsletter. I did not see that it had been posted elsewhere, yet.
"We currently have 1443 ALJS – and expect to have 200 to 250 new hires during this FY, with 90 judges leaving during that period of time. The Agency needs to get past the “bubble” to 2020, when they expect that receipts will go down.
The Agency has received a new certification and will be interviewing in January for new ALJ hires. The first class of 44 will come on board the Tuesday after Presidents’ Day and will spend three weeks in the office (where live meetings will be scheduled on topics such as SSRs) before reporting to training in Falls Church. Very tentatively, the next class is expected in the third week of March, with additional classes likely scheduled in June and July."
Also, more good news...
10. AALJ asked the Agency representatives if the Agency would support establishing Rules of Procedure. Jim Borland reported that Lillios had once drafted a proposal, and AALJ noted that a joint labor-management committee had also prepared rules (which were sent to Jim after the meeting). Jim will check to see if there is support in the Agency for creating Rules of Procedure for representatives.

Problem with this info is that we already know the first part is wrong. First class is in January, not February, and it's likely not "44" .

O53, I think we identified this mistake earlier - the date appears to be correct for the training class, but the newsletter implied it was the start date. There very well could be a February start, but it would likely be a week later, to avoid overlapping training classes.
I think the second group will start in March and train in April - just based on them interviewing folks in January (and perhaps February) - depending on the next batch of emails.

In another thread Bob told a new hire that he was going to try to hit 40 for the Jan hire, and had last Friday, Mon (today), & Tue (tomorrow) to get it done. So I do think the 44 is close.

Wouldn't there be enough names and open cities left to fill a February start from the current Cert?

I could see them filling more spots for the next group in March, but they may get another cert and continue with interviews of those not yet interviewed. Ok1956 was told she would be interviewed after the holidays, so it sounds like there will be a time lag before filling the next group to get those interviews done. Hard to say if they will get a additional cities or if they will just supplement the ones they already put out there. EDIT: I say March because the last intel was for a hire every other month through Sept. So Jan, March, May, July, & Sept. But that is NOT in stone and could change dramatically depending on needs, budget, etc. The only thing that is clear is that there will be fairly continuous hiring to hit the 200-250 goal by this fiscal year end.

I am just worried that people will be in court, on vacation, with family etc. and will not answer right away. Ugh. I hope everyone knows how to ask for a recess, tell family & friends you have an important call and have to keep your phone with you at all times, and just apologize to others around you! LOL!

I think we may see a pattern where they do a set of certs, hire people, then both supplement some of the certed cities and cert some more cities before hiring the next group.

They can certainly hire another class from the current certs, but they could further deepen the candidate pool by requesting new cities or refreshing the current certs. It wouldn't surprise me either way.

Thanks RobG! Good intel here.
I agree with Gary and Hope. They will refresh and add cities as they go to get as deep a dive into the pool as possible.
