Heard of at least one transfer offer being extended yesterday. Not the "if we, would you" email, an actual offer. Thank you for the information Funky. It is much appreciated.

This morning I received the "if we, would you" email with respect to an office for which there was a certificate and a new hire for the upcoming class that will report in March.

Heard of at least one transfer offer being extended yesterday. Not the "if we, would you" email, an actual offer. Ah, that would likely be me. Received 3 different ODAR "if we, would you" emails, 2 of which arrived in the last 48 hrs of which 1 resulted in the actual "offer? accept? you got 45 days to report to duty" in the last 24 hrs. Going home folks, (or reasonably close proximity thereto) but leaving a great office after just 6 months. And this may likely start a dominoe effect as very likely another ALJ ahead of me on the list was transferred to his locale, resulting in mine to fill his spot, resulting in another on the list filling my spot, etc etc etc. Lesson learned: wide open GAL; take what is offered, you will likely get back home very soon.

Congrats, PJ - how fantastic! But let me add, have hope, those who have an itty bitty GAL because they can't leave home, it has been known to work out.

It worked out for me - I'm not "home" but I'm less than 2 hours away! And I had a very small GAL as those who have seen my posts know. Keep the faith - the people on this board are the best and I'm pulling for you. :-)

I'm so happy for you, ok1956! I'm remaining hopeful with my small GAL. I hear one of my cities may open up by May.

Hoping for more of a HOCALJ position than a transfer. We'll see.

Lesson learned: wide open GAL; take what is offered, you will likely get back home very soon. I know this has been said previously, but I just want to reiterate that what is described above is not always the case. Of the judges that were hired into my office in 2011 four of us had to wait more than two years before receiving transfer offers. I waited 2 years and 11 months. I know one judge who has been waiting 3 years and 6 months and has still not received a transfer offer. It may end up being as easy as is described above, but just be prepared if you are trying to get back to a popular local, because you may wait a long time.

Don't take the job thinking you are getting back home in 6 to 9 months. PJ, Funky and others are real lucky, most have a long wait before the call comes getting them back home.
Haven't said that, if you want the job, take it and suck it up. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines serve years overseas before getting back home, so you can do it, just be prepared for the long haul.
It could be worse, you could have a funky odor moving into the office next door and stuck with the funky odor until you can get back home ! Tiger

Tigerlaw says "if you want the job, take it and suck it up. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines serve years overseas before getting back home, so you can do it, just be prepared for the long haul. "
Agree 100%. Myself and others are fairly lucky in our transfers. (Mine is not quite all the way home but very close enough for the next couple of years.) When I worked offshore I "hotbunked" for tours: in comparison, waiting a year, two or longer in this position to get all the way back home is easily doable and much more hygienic.

You know, we REALLY don't thank veterans enough for their service. And there's lots of vets on the Board. THANK YOU ALL once again!
