This is much more complicated than it needs to be. Anotherfed has the right approach. Given the way the winds of OPM and ODAR have blown us around, hither and yon, over the last 22 months, naming these events like hurricanes makes perfect sense. By my calculations, we are up to "E". How about Evita? That's a name that suits this process and the soundtrack is pretty good. Simple yet memorable. I would be proud to say: "I was hired during Evita!"

I thought you should all know this:
From the Farmers Almanac - "Wondering when the practice of naming hurricanes began, and where the word hurricane comes from?
Native Americans called these storms Hurakons, after "a great spirit who commanded the east wind." Spanish explorers adopted the word and then began giving hurricanes the names of patron saints on whose feast days the storms occurred. Later, hurricanes were identified by their longitude and latitude.
A weatherman in Australia is credited with being the first person to name a tropical storm after a female. By World War II, meteorologists in the U.S. military named storms after their girlfriends and wives.
The first storm in the Atlantic Ocean named for a man was Hurricane Bob!"
You can't make this stuff up.
At this point, I say we honor our Native Americans and name them after tribes or reservations

I was joking about naming the certs. I just like the name, George. I agree that the cert(s) date is not as important as the hire date, and I don't think labeling certs is going to help or clarify the process. But as we wait for action from ODAR, it's as good a thing as any to debate... or maybe ... Who's your pick for the Superbowl?

My suggestion is only so much serious as it takes to stop this whole idea from blossoming into a nightmare. I am not on any cert so I couldn't care less what we call all of these. These are "your" certs. I will have "My" cert. That is the only cert I care about. But, it kinda passes the time, and it would help sort it out if we could develop a systematic nomenclature . . . ARRGGGHH!!!

Ok. Gang. My purpose behind having a nomenclature for certs is so that when a poll goes up we all know what we are voting on. Thats why a date makes sense. There may be other times when we need to be that specific but mostly not.
In other instances it may make more sense to say I am on the Newark Cert. It really doesn't matter what Newark Cert it is until one comes out and your name isn't on it. Either you're hired or 3 struck.
I think you just have to use months for interviews and hires.

If we devolve into naming certs after comic strip animals like cert Snoopy, cert Marmaduke, cert Garfield, etc., I'm blaming you.

Where's BagLady and Orchid for all this? There's two things this Board can sort out, and sort out well, and it's our ETOH and our geocoords. Trying to figure out how to name the certs is driving me to drink. Drinking many of Baglady's drinks of the day has left me staring at maps of cities with ODAR offices.
