Chief Judge Griswold announced today that if OMHA receives the 2016 Presidential budget, OMHA will grow from 77 judge teams to 196 judge teams with the possibility of six (6) new offices. Again, this is based on proposed Presidential budget.

I suddenly became hugely invested in the President's budget getting passed or at least the OMHA and ODAR components. I realize that with the current difficulties between Congress and the President that getting any kind of budget passed is a long shot.

With the GOP controlling both the House and the Senate, there should not be a problem getting a budget passed. Since the budget resolution does not get submitted to the President for signature, that should do it for purposes of the budget.
That doesn't mean Congress and the President will agree on the appropriations bills, which is where the rubber really meets the road.

Excellent point gary I was confusing the two. Although new OMHA offices would speed up claims which would help hospitals and docs so that might get some Republican support.

If they'd open an OMHA office within my GAL, I'd certainly consider accepting their offer. And if history is repeated, an offer from OMHA would precede an offer from ODAR which would give me a choice.

Are you sure this is based on the President's budget. I thought that was dead in the water -- just a pro forma proposal.

I would be shocked if the Congressional Budget Resolution resembles the President's Budget in any meaningful way. Once they get past this annual bit of political posturing, Congress and the President can move on to the serious business of seeing what, if anything, they can agree on with respect to appropriations for FY 2016.

They are ALJs. My understanding is that a large number of them began their ALJ careers at ODAR many years ago.

They are hiring off of the current ALJ register. As Sratty would say, it's a good time to have that NOR.

Some friends were picked up from ODAR as Judges in the past, some were picked up off of a Register..

Right, bart. Good clarification. My point was that there is not a separate OPM register for new hires. Didn't mean that the register was instead of hiring from other agencies.

Some friends were picked up from ODAR as Judges in the past, some were picked up off of a Register.. Right before OMHA pulled its current certs from the Register, we had intel that OMHA solicited experienced ALJs to apply for positions in KC and Cleveland, IIRC, because they are supervisory positions. Everyone that I have dealt with at OMHA has been very professional, from the interview itself to all the logistics, and it seems like it would be a fabulous place to work.

Had my interview with OMHA recently. It was interesting. The interviewers were cordial and professional. My question is for those who are farther through the process than I am, I found it a little unusual that I was sent forms regarding cyber security at HHS and that I have to watch two cyber security training videos as part of the application process. Did anyone else find this to be premature, given that not only do we not have the job, but we were directed to complete them even before the interview?

It does seem odd. And there are reports of some who have been fingerprinted and ID photo taken, yet no offer. Very odd... unless the final "check" is just the last hurdle and they want to be able to spring into action with an offer as soon as it is all clear. Sounds like good progress to me!

Agree with Sratty. It may not be premature. Be an optimist! Perhaps good things are right around the corner!

From intel from OMHA's first round of certs, we know that OMHA starts background checks during the interview process (OMHA does two interviews) and makes offers continent upon successful completion of background check, unlike ODAR that does the big background check after hiring.

Does anyone know where those potential 6 new offices might be located? It would be interesting to know if there is some possibility of future hires in cities that are on my GAL (however unlikely that the budget will be approved as planned or that those offices would open in the foreseeable future)

Funny you should mention that, I was just doing a compare and contrast with the current OMHA offices and the regional offices - my prediction is a new office in the northeast (Boston/Philly), maybe Atlanta, Dallas, San Fran and Seattle. Can't predict the 6th one. JMHO.
