You regular contributors to the Blog are the best! I would have lost my mind long ago without your generous sharing of information and humor! The Sounds of Silence is overrated.

I'm counting on ODAR working through the barrister representing the Nigerian princess who needs my help getting her fortune out of the country. If not, I just made a terrible mistake. um, Gary, that's my princess, and soon to be my fortune, so I hope the ALJ thing works out for you, because that money, pending my final payment to grease the skids, is coming to me. It takes money to make money, right?

As soon as either of you start getting your Nigerian fortune, I have an investment opportunity. My "firm" has apparently been noticed by some movers and shakers in the Shanghai textile industry and need us to handle some major international shipping negotiations for them. I am guessing that one time I represented the guy that boosted that bass boat really made the legal news over there in China. So much so, they are willing to overlook the fact my firm has been closed for over 6 years. I could let you guys in on the ground floor....

Ordinarily I'd jump at the opportunity, Funky, but just now my Nigerian princess's barrister is keeping me jumping making cash transfers and providing him with my bank account and credit card numbers. He assures me it's so ODAR can finish processing my ALJ application.

You guys are pikers! There's a Russian syndicate GUARANTYING me a 125% return, insured by the Russian government itself! The only hassle is I have to convert my money to bitcoins before I hit send. But it's obviously well worth it. Maybe by the time Bob gets around to moving things along, I'll be retired in the Caymans. One more spot for you hopefuls!

On a more serious note, things have really ground to a halt. I can't believe ODAR is pleased with the current state of affairs. This delay has to be hindering their plans to get to 250 this fiscal year. Has anyone heard anything concrete about where they are in the process?

This delay has to be hindering their plans to get to 250 this fiscal year. Has anyone heard anything concrete about where they are in the process? The only thing I have heard is that Sklar and team are very frustrated with the delay. They still plan for the 500 between 2015 and 2016 and hope to get offers out in the next few weeks. So things "seem" like they are still on track as planned, but clearly they will have to do some make up work somewhere to keep the numbers they intend to hire. ODAR is not happy about the delay that is clear. I have this intel from various management members who are privy to the meetings. But that's all I have.

I imagine ODAR has progressed from the 20 lb rubber band ball to throwing pens into the dropped ceiling tiles to see if they'll stick.

concur with Sratty that ODAR is NOT happy with delay. i have heard multiple times ODAR wants to bring on 250 ALJS by end of fiscal, including as recently as yesterday. i know that has been posted on here multiple times but i am reinforcing ODAR still has that desire and intent.

Thanks christina. With the unexpected delay its good to hear that's still their desire.

Definitely frustrated. This is all on opm folks.
I made an attempt to get some info for you folks. What I got, from an impeccable source, is they are still planning (hoping?) a "small hire" for May and will be doing a lot of hiring thereafter thru the fiscal.
Got nothing else. No numbers, no time line, no cities. Just the plan now is a small May hire and to do much more later.

What do you think is the smallest size a class could be?

A complete guess but I can't imagine cost benefit wise less than 20 to 25 makes sense.
Now, with that said, I know a judge hired earlier this millennium that had 12 in his class.

Does anyone have creative responses for friends/family to the question, "have you heard anything?" I feel like a broken record..."no," "nope," "not today," "hopefully soon." Repeat daily.

I think some family were starting to doubt my veracity (sanity?), so I gave them this website. Now they follow along too (after all, things can get pretty humorous here at times).
