Your enthusiasm and desire to be ALJs are commendable to some. However, others may see this as desperation. So please watch what you post on the board. There have been instances in which the folks in ODAR have figured out who you are despite your avatar or screen name. You will never know if and when something you posted turned them off and resulted in your being passed over. Your OPM test scores only get you an invitation to the dance and a place on the dance card. After that, determining if you are the "right fit" for the job depends on subjective assessments. Your presentation in the interview. What your peers, references, boss and/or supervisors report. What you are posting on this board. I think there is always a fear by some board members about being discovered by those who do the hiring. But if you post uplifting and enthusiastic comments about this trek, I cannot see how that would harm anyone. At least I hope that is the case. I hope I do not sound "desperate" by my comments. This board has been a great source of information and support for all of us wanting an ALJ position. If I am not selected I will continue to do my best in my current position and keep trying. I have a great job and am not desperate for the position. Do I want it? Absolutely! Will my life be over if I do not get it? Of course not! We all know some who have gone off the deep end at times and posted some strong comments and revealed some distinctly negative personality traits... yet were hired. So I am not so sure how the comments posted to the board can actually influence offers. But you may be right, I have no idea. You may be in the "know" on this. If so, I imagine the warning about comments will put a damper on some of the things people post. You do have a point in that we should all conduct ourselves as if this is one long continuous interview process. After all, judicial demeanor is important to have both on and off work. It certainly cannot hurt to carry on with this attitude.

If what you said on this Board could disqualify you, I am sure certain people would not have been hired that were already indeed hired by SSA from this register. I think some people on this Board don't understand the camaraderie that has developed among this group on this register. There isn't that fierce competition to cut someone off at the knees, if he/she acquires a position before someone else. We are truly happy for each and every person who gets the nod and offer. So, if there is some joking or back-slapping going on between us or consoling of others, this doesn't mean someone isn't judge material, if anything it makes him/her more acceptable to be judge material, than someone who cannot see beyond their own insecurities to be happy for other members' fortunes or to be able to console others for their misfortunes IMHO.

Don't turn your back. - CONSTANT VIGILANCE! I certainly am not desperate for this job. I have a good job right now and honestly if this process has taught me anything its that I can compete with the best of the best and if this doesn't work out AND I want another job I can probably get one. I would love this job and the opportunity to serve as an ALJ but this job search is not who I am. I also have no doubt that the PTB watch the Board but I doubt they take light hearted banter as something serious.

What's crazy is that, on some previous certs, they were dipping down to catch people who had scores in the 40s!!!!!! I think they sincerely regret that they did so. Of course that's cold comfort to those currently waiting with decent scores. And that's a fact, I have worked with several of them. Somehow, I think the agency has more on its plate then to keep track of a 40s!!!! score ALJ - I doubt that there is a separate how MI doing correlated to score and number of cases closed or remanded. Your registry score doesn't and shouldn't follow you once you become an ALJ. Board members here have said time and time again that the score you receive is not necessarily an indication of how good a judge you may become. In my time in two offices at ODAR, I have no idea what another person's ALJ score is, nor does it matter to me. Assuming that someone with a 40s!!! score was hired, they are no less deserving of the ALJ position then someone with a 70s score . . . perhaps it's my naiveté, but ODAR has been at this for a while - if the interviewers saw something with a candidate with a 40s!!! score and hired that person, more power to that candidate. If that candidate believed like the original author implied, that he may be less deserving, then he has all the reason to be grateful and motivated to do this job well, rather than waiting with an entitled attitude.

Sure, a score is important in making the register, and it is important in making a cert, and perhaps in ranking ahead of a candidate with veteran preference points, but the agency pays them no mind when making selections. In other words if an offer is made, the agency used criteria other than the OPM score in making the selection. Pixie.

This is an excellent point. My score is NOT where I wanted it to be, but that has no bearing whatsoever on my skill or ability to do the job. At least I would like to think so. I think I would do a great job as a public servant and ALJ despite my score. Perhaps even better than some scoring much higher than me. I think we should all be very grateful just to be on this register. Remember, there are MANY people who applied and did not make it this far. Being on the register has no connection to their "worth" as people. It simply means those who made the register jumped through the hoops exactly how OPM wanted. One single different response on something along the way could have meant a different outcome. Connecting someone's score to their ability as an ALJ is simply not fair. There are simply too many factors in play to make a conclusory statement about any relationship to the score. Everyone on this register has been deemed qualified to be an ALJ by OPM. Now it is a matter of "fit" for the individual agencies.

I think this is key. If you have a city on your GAL and were not chosen (but did have the cert email for it), and if that city comes up again and you no longer receive a cert for that city--then I think the writing is on the wall, at least one strike. If you keep getting cert emails, you are not out. But until something clear like this happens, there really isn't a way to know if you are out. They may be going through pulling all the highly recommends first and then making another pass later once all of them are picked up. You just never know. Remember you will not know if you received a "highly recommend" or a "recommend." Surely they treat them differently or there would be no point. Keep the faith people! We still have at least 3 more hires in this fiscal year alone (May and 2 more at least), and then a repeat for 2016! I think you are absolutely correct Sratty. The key is do you still receive the cert email from SSA? If yes, then you still have a chance for an offer, if not and your GAL included cities in the cert there may be an issue. It depends upon your score and other factors, but if you have a score in the 70s and your GAL includes cities in the cert, then the likelihood is your may have received one or more strikes. Keep the faith, as Sratty and many others have said, there is still a lot of hiring to be done by SSA this year as well as next year. How can one know if a city one received a cert e-mail for previously, is on a cert again (assuming that the polls do not show anyone hired for that city), and not just on the polls as a left-over from a cert received in 11/2014? Would a new cert e-mail go out if the position(s) in that city have not been filled?

I received a new cert email from 1st cert to 2nd cert. I can't answer between the second cert. and the additional "3rd cert" where cities were added but no "you did not get a position" email was sent.
