I think I have this where it is sortable. The ALJ ID # is not anything official. It is instead an individual identifier for each ALJ created solely for this edition of this spreadsheet. In other words ALJ ID # 1 is Judge Smith, ALJ ID # 2 is Judge Jones, ALJ ID # 10z is Judge Johnson, etc. There is no rhyme or reason to their ID# but each ALJ on the transfer list has their own ID#. I hope I made that clear. If not I will try to answer questions as they come up. It is not sortable. I am not sure what I did different this time. However, you should be able to copy it into an excel spreadsheet or google sheet.

Thanks for doing this! To confirm, this is the list of people who WANT to transfer (i.e., the waiting list) to a certain office.

It's interesting to see how long some of those names have been on the list. 2010? Also, look at a place like Tucson. Five on the transfer list, but there were 2 new hires. It does seem that there are lots of turndowns of transfers when the offer comes at a bad time for family, etc.

For those who are not inclined to do the mining but want a quick look at "Where's Hot" and "Where's Not," the attached pdf presents the city data from three different perspectives. For example, two ALJs in Denver desire to transfer out, but nine others want in to Denver. Based on the raw data provided by Gaidin. Easy to tell where the most popular locations are. ALJ Transfer List 3-15.pdf (59.06 KB) With gratitude to my colleagues on this Board.

Also, does ODAR hire new ALJs to work at NHCs?

You can't transfer in to an NHC. Those are management positions and an alj wanting to go there must apply for a position when one opens. So the transfer list will not tell how many want in.

Short answers. New ALJ's are not hired for NHCs. ALJ's are solicited for vacancies at NHC's via email, not hired from the transfer list. These topics are discussed in more detail in the prior thread.

But, is the number of ALJs wanting to exit each NHC a high percentage of the number of ALJs at each NHC? If yes, does any one have an explanation/guessplanation for a high percentage wanting to exit?

I now understand from Funky and Mamaru's posts that I cannot be hired directly into an NHC, but I remain curious. Thanks.

Two or three quick reasons, the location of the NHC's and the fact that being management ALJ's they are not allowed to work at home. All of their hearings are video and some videos are less than good quality from my experience. I prefer face-to-face hearings.

The number of ALJs seeking transfers from NHC's is probably a combination of people who went there expecting to expedite a transfer "home" that did not work and they are stuck, the typical motive of getting on a list for somewhere they expect to retire, and not liking the city/boss/structure/whatever. Again these issues are covered at length in previous threads.

Whatever restrictions there may once have been are long gone, at least in the NHC where I am.
