I think it is important for folks to know that once we get the cert emails, you need to think long and hard about whether you want to live in each city for a while. And whether you do may have to do with the WEATHER. So while we are waiting, you all might want to check out all the places that are getting SNOW on this spring day. Where I live it might even be a record snowfall today, but last year, we had snow in MAY. And if it isn't a permanent location, it makes it difficult to travel home. Just sayin'. That's odd. Where I live it's Spring and we're having a Winter Storm too, with oodles of snow and whiteout conditions and long expressway travel times. If any of you delicate-mild-climate flowers gets an offer for here you may want to consider whether you're really prepared to live like this three-quarters of the year every year. When I moved up north from a very, very warm southern city, a local kid told me that there are only two seasons up here: winter and construction.

When you live in a beach resort town, you have summer and construction seasons, that's it. I've lived in lots of two season towns come to think of it... Sailing season or anything other than sailing.... Congress is in session or it is not (different than the tourist season in DC, the tourists are swarming the Metro during rush hour and then one day they are blissfully gone!)... Perhaps we'll start a new thread of two season locales, complete with a drink of the day for each of the seasons. Just a thought while I try not to obsessively check my emails and this board.

I appreciate the tactics Gary and Miss, but I am not so sure many people will take what you said to heart. What you stated is absolutely true, unfortunately many people fail to heed warnings until it is way too late.

I had 3" of snow saturday, have a foot of snow in my yard, and it was 12 degrees when I got up this morning. Here it's eleven months of winter and one month of freezing rain Oh, and my WAG is it's going to be almost impossible to interview more than a handful for the May class, if any.

I wonder if we will hear of phone calls scheduling interviews before the cert emails are delivered. At least that would be some forward movement tho.

Local weather is but one consideration for applicants. I am a southerner. I was placed in a location where quite literally the air made my face hurt. The sun disappeared last October. It is now spring and it has snowed every day since. But every story is different. My kids are grown. My spouse is also a road warrior. We have moved to different homes 7 times in the last 15 years. The overriding concern for my GAL was transportation. Being able to fly to and from home, easily, (the airport is literally 15 minutes from the office) was the key factor. Flying +6000 miles each month; not a big deal. i don't even need to carry luggage. The remaining concerns (weather, local life/liveability) ranked under ease of transportation for me. The difference again, is that as a freebird I can literally live anywhere that I can fly-in/out easily. I did not have to move a family, sell a house, buy a house, have to worry about schools etc. If I had to move a family/house etc., yes weather would rank higher and transportation would rank lower of my GAL reviews. Each person must fully consider and weigh their needs and necessities as to each GAL. If you and/or family absolutely cannot do a specific GAL, do not do it. Let someone else step forward. Do your homework. Then you will make the right decision. Myself? I am lucky: After six+ months I am going home and another fellow ALJ as result gets to come back home here. Would have the process been more efficient and logical for the SSA to hire and place us where we came from and now where we are being sent back? Definitely but this is the federal government.

I wonder if we will hear of phone calls scheduling interviews before the cert emails are delivered. At least that would be some forward movement tho. Even if they did that for the May hiring class they'd have to squeeze the schedule some. The things that would have to come after interviews are Hiring Committee deliberations; offers/acceptances; and a period for new hires to quit jobs and wind up practices. If they did all the interviews next week they'd only have six weeks for all that stuff.

Ok Chicago. We know what you're up to. If it were really snowing that much you would be outside shoveling and reserving your parking spots with plastic Easter bunnies.
