Hmmm. It seems that even if ODAR is only on planning on looking at people they have already interviewed, they are running out of time to get updated GAL preferences out and back in time to make offers. Has anyone heard anything about the May class being postponed? While I agree a delay is possible I do not think it is likely. Not because they have already extended offers for May but because the faculty for the training class has already cleared their calendar and changing their schedule in the middle of summer is problematic. There is more of my insight (read WAG) at this link. aljdiscussion.proboards.com/post/72955/thread

So, if there was word--on the street--that new ALJs would be reporting in the middle of May and at the end of June, when would certs need to be issued? They would have to have time to interview (for those that had not yet been interviewed) and make offers, correct? Also, would the "reporting date" be the day the new ALJs report for their three weeks prior to going to Falls Church?

I'm thinking certs will start going out tomorrow. Again, I have no basis for believing this; however, one day I will be correct.

Also, would the "reporting date" be the day the new ALJs report for their three weeks prior to going to Falls Church? They still have to have certificates in order to hire. If they use only the same cities they have had on past certificates, there would be no need for additional interviews unless they were able to reach deeper into the register and pick up some folks that did not make it on a certificate for those cities before. You only get one interview so once you make a certificate, that is it, no more interviewing needed. If they pick up new cities, that will require additional interviews since there will likely be people who had not been interviewed yet. This is so because there are so many people on the register with very limited GALs.
The reporting date is the reporting date to the new office for the time prior to training. In the past it was 2 weeks but it has been 3 weeks on this new register.

I hear there will be certs for some new cities this time around. These new cities are on my GAL and I haven't yet been interviewed. So, I'm hopeful.

Saw this in the 3/30 AALJ Newsletter:
The Agency plans to hire 40 to 50 new ALJs per class. New hiring dates so far: 3/23; 5/18; 6/29.
Does not look like they have any intention of postponing the May class. Maybe what they intend to do with the current group of Certs is hire for both the May and the June classes...I'm sure plenty of people will be happy to join the May class even with only 2-3 weeks notice, and those who need more time would have the June start date.

Those will be reporting dates, won't they? As opposed to class starting dates.

I'm thinking they may do interviews of some after they do hiring, as occurred with me. I got notice I was on the McAlester cert at the same time as everyone else in the "second round" (I think that's the timing) but then I didn't interview until January, when they did three days of interviews. Keep the faith - it may come when you least expect it. :-)

I disagreeumption is that dpageks' comment is wishful thinking by him as to cities on the next cert. I don't think anyone knows for sure what cities will be on the certs as transfers are still occurring.
