any wags as to when offers might start rolling? If they want to fill up that May class, and they get some cities with lists only of people who have interviewed already, they could meet next week, theoretically. That may be why they asked for such a quick turnaround on the GAL checklists.

any wags as to when offers might start rolling? I think they'll do what they can to add to May without further interviews. I think they get back the GAL documents by tomorrow, and take the rest of this week to decide and get organized for offers for May. So I think offers for May start Monday. Keep in mind my date-guessing track record for this process is abysmal and there are others guessing offers will start before the end of this week.

Wait a minute, Gary, to my recollection, you were the only one to correctly predict "today" as the day the certs would come out, so you've got that going for you, hmm?

On the other hand, today I'm wrong about that again.

Have I missed a discussion on this topic: "accepting" a location v. ranking locations. Assuming that each of the locals would be accepted by applicant if offered, is there any tactical advantage to just accepting the locations as opposed to ranking each of them? Along with this question, does anyone know if an applicant's ranking is made available to the ultimate decision maker on hiring?

Along with this question, does anyone know if an applicant's ranking is made available to the ultimate decision maker on hiring? This register's certs have been the first in which they've even asked for ranking. Some people had fairly good luck with getting their higher ranked locations, some did not. There's no guarantee, but there is no downside to ranking your preferred locations. If they want to hire you, they will hire you, whether it's for one of your preferred locations or not. I assume the rankings are available to the ones making the decision, as there would be no point in asking for the rankings otherwise.

I take special comfort in the fact that they did hire people in cities far down on their preferences since that suggests to me you are not hurting your chances at the job by ranking your cities.

Now is the last dance of the MisBegotten's Ball. Congratulations to all and especially to those "happy few" who have been in the breach of these pages, day after day, week after week, month after month. Always quick with help, encouragement and wit--never critical or judgmental. Godspeed to ya and may you wear the Robe.

I have 9 cities on my GAL. Unfortunately, my circumstances have changed and I would like to be closer to home. I will not refuse any location but I would very much like to stay as close to home as possible now. Can I put an "X" in the accept box for all of the cities that are my top choices and then number the remaining cities by my preference or must I rate each city? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can rank by number some, and "accept" some. I have done that and am doing it again. I hope it shows my true preferences, and the places I will make work to get the job. Good luck! Edit: to be clear, I number my top choices and accept ("x") the others.

You have to consider this very carefully. If you really would accept even the farthest away of the nine, then go ahead and do as you propose. Otherwise, take those cities off. I don't know where home or close to home is for you, but transfers still don't come quickly for everyone. It depends on so many things. Circumstances have changed for me, too. I will end up with less than 5 cities in play on this set of certs.

Word of caution... you may have that backwards, if I remember correctly or if I'm reading your post correctly. Placing an "X" by a city means you'll accept that city but don't have a preference. I might advise simply going ahead and ranking your top choices 1 through whatever and then rank the remaining offices either by distance or ease in getting home (proximity to major airport or rail). Just my unsolicited two cents. I'm just not sure how they would react to seeing four X's and remaining cities ranked 5-9.

The way to do it is to number by preference the ones you want the most and then just an X for the ones that you would accept but have no preference.

Is there a way to check to see if we are still on the list? None of my cities have appeared on a cert yet bt a post I read earlier has me worried. Shortly after I got my score I took a job with a Fed agency, Did I somehow boot myself off the list?? Unless it was an ALJ job you're still on the Register.

Shortly after I got my score I took a job with a Fed agency, Did I somehow boot myself off the list?? You would only be removed from the Register if you took a job as an ALJ. If none of your cities have shown up on certs, that's your answer. No certs have been pulled for your locations, so your name has not been referred to ODAR. Yet. You never know when it will happen, so don't give up!
