Ok peeps, the time is near and once again we will be in the midst of offers and all the excitement. We can all do our part by having that phone handy, checking voicemail obsessively, and answering/returning that call to Bob or Mellinda in record time.
Might be time to purchase that waterproof phone case.
I would think the May 18 starting group will be comprised of those already interviewed since there is no time for interviews for that group, and those with upcoming interviews May 11-15 (there are reports of interviewers receiving this timeframe) will be for the next group in June/July (no posted dates but there was one rumor of June 29th).
The main point: BE READY for the call, have your answer ready to go, and GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

I met Mellinda today... very nice lady. Training is going well. The DC told us they hope to keep the training rooms full for the rest of the year. As has been mentioned before, SSA is not the obstacle!
Good luck to you all!

Seriously, gang please make sure you have given this the thought and consideration it deserves before you get the call. Make your day, Bob's day, and the rest of the Board's day and say "yes" as soon as you realize it's not someone calling to sell you a credit card or a cruise.
I will begin putting up polls as soon as we begin getting offers. I will also lock the existing polls down.

No! No! No! To be perfectly clear, from a purely self-interested perspective, make sure and tell Bob "no," so I can get my offer already!!! But, I suppose if other people are going to be hired anyway, it may as well be my board friends, so good luck!

Yeah Gaidin - that worked sooooo well for John Kerry when he took JT to France.....
(one of my favorite songs by the way, either when Carole King or James Taylor sings it)
PS - Bob - if you're reading this, I'll drop my sarcasm the second you Call Out My Name...

If you are old enough to remember this one, you are old enough to know better.
Bob, Don't be afraid to call me, I'll be around.

My guess, for what its worth, is that they will try to hire as many as they can for the May class next week, and next week only. If they get 6 or 7 accepts per day, they can get a class of 30-35. If everyone takes 24 hours to respond, the class may be about 5 people.

That 24 hour turnaround can make a difference and affect many people. This time I think people will be more likely to answer right away though, not much time between returning the GAL list and the call, and hopefully no major life changes in between.

Can someone explain again why we believe an offer cannot be givven until a different offer, potentially with an entirely different pool of individuals on the other side of the country, is accepted or rejected? I have seen this referenced lately, but the explanation may have been shared while I was in one of my petulant "not reading the board" periods. Thanks in advance.

The problem is that many of us have very wide GALs and are in many geographic "pools." A "no thanks" to one offer may (and probably does) have ramifications for the remaining locations to be filled.
I don't think anyone who posts really has figured out exactly how they do this - many people have theories.
I think we have a consensus that when they start out they have a plan that entails going in a specific order, complete with back-up plans, and that's why they do not make another offer while one is pending. If somebody declines, they need to make adjustments to get the people who are not just acceptable, but the ones they want most. However, if they are under pressure to fill that May class, they may change their strategy.
Let the fun begin!

Somewhere along the process, it has become accepted wisdom that ODAR can only make one offer at a time (as opposed to working two lists from different geographic areas), and must receive an accept or reject before moving on to the next offer. I can't remember the source, but I seem to recall that it is part of OPM's new procedure with regard to hiring from the Register.

I can't remember the source, but I seem to recall that it is part of OPM's new procedure with regard to hiring from the Register. I thought things moved considerably faster after the first hire. Even accounting for the speed up in acceptances with the 24 hour rule, it seemed as if hires were coming out much quicker. I think they can do simultaneous offers as long as potential candidates do not overlap cities.

I had no idea that was a dude. I'm guessing from Gary's post that maybe Petula Clark covered it also? Maybe im only rembering that version. And let me be clear, it would have been on the oldies station that I remember it from .....
